The media was right all along, they will tell you.Professional football was meant to be played a certain way they say.
The year was 2013 when Chip Kelly's fastbreak offense exploded on the scene against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. Philadelphia lead 33-7 before Washington could stop the bleeding and by then it was to late.
One year removed from a 4-12 record, under Kelly the Eagles had consecutive 10 win seasons in 2013 & 2014 while the offense flourished.
Gimmicky offenses such as the Run &Shoot or the Chuck & Duck seem to have a short shelf life in the NFL as defensive coordinators will make adjustments after seeing enough game tape.
2015 has not been kind to Chip and the Eagles offense to date.
For a team with high expectations, the Eagles start the season 0-2
They rebound the following week by beating the Jets on the road
As confidence returns after beating the Jets, they crash and burn the following week against a Washington team that drives 90 yards on the final drive to send the Eagles to 1-3
The local sports talk stations field calls all day calling for Chip Kelly's head. The media takes the opportunity to jump on board,calling the offense college ball and short lived.
Just another fad offense that ran it's course they say.......
I see something different with this Eagles team.
Consider this.....
The Eagles have had major changes on offense this year
They have added a new starting quarterback who hasn't played much the past 2 years because of injuries. Bradford sat out the majority of the preseason, playing one series during the 3rd preseason game and just about a half against Green Bay during the 4th preseason game. Timing with receivers never had the time to develop.
Offensively the Eagles have added 5 new starters
* A new signal caller--Bradford
* 2 new runningbacks--Murray & Matthews
* A rookie wide receiver-- Agholor
* 2 new guards
Tight end Zach Ertz missed the majority of the preseason with injuries.
The problem in Philadelphia to date has been more about timing and trust and less about schemes.
Any team with that kind of turnover will have growing pains but i see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Starting the season 1-3 has humbled this team. Beating a Saints team last week at home was step one in rebuilding the confidence.
Playing and beating a division rival in front of a national television audience on Monday Night Football is step two.
For a team that everyone had dead and buried, the Eagles know the importance of this game. Dallas expects to get Dez & Romo back at some point soon, so getting this division game is of great importance.
The Giants weakness on defense is a vulnerable secondary that took a major hit this week with the loss of Amukamara.
Expect an Eagles team to play inspired ball with a sense of purpose here while Giants look towards a home contest with Dallas next week as more important.
Eagles swept Giants last year winning 27-0 @home and 34-26 in New York
Philadelphia Eagles -5
