Indianapolis Colts @ Washington Redskins
I talked about the Chiefs as being highly underrated, but I haven’t discussed the other team I’m very high on this season. I know the Colts are in a bounceback spot and are a popular pick this week, but I’m very high on the Redskins this year. I took them to win their division at +660 ($750 to win $5k) as I think this team has a very good chance to take the crown from the Eagles, and I’ll be backing them this Sunday again after taking them last week against Arizona.
The Colts are in a decent spot this week - they should have beaten the Bengals as they were outscored 17-0 to end the game.
However, Washington is a top 10 team in the league this year in my opinion, and have a stellar defense. Their defense can shut down a lot of teams and Luck doesn’t have the line up front to protect him. +6 looks enticing for a good QB like Luck, but I think Washington takes care of business.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Eagles have had 10 days to prepare for this game since their opening game was last Thursday, but let’s not forget what Nick Foles numbers were in a home game. 19/34 (55%) for 117 yards – 3.4 yards per attempt! And, that was in a home game where they won the time of possession battle. If you think the Eagles coaching staff are confident in their offense heading into this game in Tampa Bay, then see this:
- Free agent QB Paxton Lynch visited the Eagles on Tuesday. Lynch was cut from the Broncos after just 4 starts.
- The Eagles signed 3 WRs to the Practice Team on Tuesday
Note – Teasing the Bucs crossing all key numbers up to +10.5 in this spot against a weak offense is a very strong #, so I’ll be using that as an anchor this week.
Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
Early statement game for Green Bay. Besides the Chiefs, the Packers are my other top play of the weekend. The fact that Green Bay was down 20-0 to the Bears last week means literally nothing for this game. The Vikings single handedly ended Aaron Rodgers season last year, the Packers season last year, and the championship hopes of the entire city last year. It happened so early in the season when Green Bay was 4-1 and a NFC SuperBowl favorite which made it that much harder on the team. Additionally, many players in the locker room felt it was a dirty hit on Rodgers.
- “It’s devastating, no question about it,” receiver Randall Cobb said.
- “He’s the heartbeat of this team,” receiver Davante Adams said.
- “We all understand the magnitude of what Aaron means to our football team,” McCarthy said. “I didn’t like the hit. It was unnecessary. Illegal, whatever. But it was totally unnecessary in my opinion,”
- Receiver Jordy Nelson picked one word to describe Rodgers’ impact. “Everything,” he said.
- “He’s the best player in the league,” left tackle David Bakhtiari said. “To see him on the ground for an extended period of time is not good.”
I know Minnesota is a great team, but Green Bay will be all in this game. Everybody will be giving 110% – especially knowing Rodgers is playing hobbled; and the crowd will be electric. I expect the Packers to win this game in a rout. (This is the only game I haven't bet yet, obviously a no-play if Rodgers is out)
New England Patriots @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Taking a look at the entire schedule for my Pats this year, this is the one game that will be the toughest to win. The two hardest road games will be in Jacksonville here, and Pittsburgh in week 15 – however, the PITT game is late in the year when the Pats will be a lot healthier and have incorporated their new players into the system better.
At the moment, they are still working in a ton of new players - Edelman has been suspended, Cooks left the team, Amendola left the team, Dion Lewis left the team, Mitchell left the team, Malcolm Butler left the team, etc. Additionally, the RBs on New England are all injured right now.
Brady has always found a way to win with whoever is on the roster as their team changes year to year more than any in the league, and while their defense will be greatly improved due to their increased pass rush - Jacksonville has had this game circled for the past 8 months. This isn’t the best time for New England to go into Jacksonville and win in a very hostile environment.
