"In television sports programming, there is the
National Football League, and then there is everything else. Its television
ratings have eclipsed all corners to the point that the conventional wisdom has
become that it is bulletproof; nothing can draw fans away.
The contention has
been that no matter who the teams are in an NFL matchup, large numbers will
tune in to watch. But a funny thing has happened on Sunday nights recently:
blowout games have allowed The Walking Dead to capture the key 18-49
demographic.
For two straight weeks, and three times in the last five weeks,
AMC Networks' AMCX +1.63% zombie apocalypse horror fest has beaten NBC’s Sunday
Night Football in the overall ratings as well, something previously unheard of in the last five years
On Sunday
it was the 55-14 rout by the Green Bay Packers over the hapless Chicago Bears. That
game drew a 6.1 metered market rating—a season low for SNF— while Walking
Dead pulled a 7.6, or 24 percent higher. A week prior, the Pittsburgh
Steelers’ 42-23 shellacking of the Baltimore Ravens got a 6.1. The Packers’
pummeling of the Bears was down 6 percent from that game.
The Packers-Bears
game was 42-0 at halftime, and with it, young audiences decided that dining on
fictional zombies was going to be better viewing than watching the zombies
playing for the Bears."
Just an excerpt I found in a forbes article. The NFL is losing audience members and losing them quickly to lopsided games, blowout games or slow paced boring games. So whats the best remedy for that a high scoring close game and because of that I think we see a back and forth affair tonight with the total eclipsing 58 points.
Over 57.5 for me tonight. BOL to everyone on their bets.
