Patrick Mahomes Observation

I watched 2 football games today.

I had some time and rewatched the Niners vs KC SB from a few years ago.

Right after that I watched this past weekend’s AFC title game KC vs CINCY.

What I noticed was astounding. During the KC/CINCY game I watched a young man who clearly, unquestionably had the deer in headlights look on his face throughout the second half of that game. He was timid, shaky, unsure of himself and flat out wilted under the pressure and choked in ways you would never imagine to see Patrick Mahomes choke. Where did that swagger and confidence go? who is this version of Pat? More on that later..

During the Niner SB in February of 2020- I saw a very happy, often smiling and Uber confident Mahomes on the sidelines of his first ever SB. He was enjoying himself, the atmosphere and played with supreme confidence..

On July 16th 2020 - several months after winning his first SB, Mahomes signed a colossal $503 million contract with $477 million guaranteed.

477 million guaranteed for emphasis. He’s been a completely different player emotionally before and since signing that deal. 

The leadership and joy have left his game. Still talented, but he turns it on and off. He was supposed to be the Curry of the NFL, but not anymore. He is on his way to becoming A Rodgers 2.0. Grossly underachieving for a generational talent. 

Paying any player that much money is asking for trouble. So many downsides including the team not being able to sign quality players at other positions. 
All of that money and most of it guaranteed certainly could affect a player's competitive edge. A career ending injury would also be devastating. 
A great player, but do you have to mortgage a team's future to keep him? If so, is it worth it

Good lord. The irony that Andy needed to face Kyle to win his first SB. Thx BB. Just brutal. Two cowards.

It was comical how hard and often the Rams sold out to stop the run , whole defense would be in the damn box and not once did Kyle try to take advantage over the top for a big play via play action. Just mind blowing. What a freaking basketcase. That secondary was begging to be carved up.

Lol go rewatch the Bills game then. Probably the best game he’s ever played. Don’t want to hear it’s about money that changed him. If anything say he threw the game for other reasons.

 Why not Manning 2.0? Best reg season QB but choke artist in the playoffs? His last SB win he did nothing. Hobbled on the field and his D won the game. Of course he was old and couldn’t throw past 5yrds. It was a salute and gimme game for him. I think Chiefs will still be contenders. Too much money was riding on him. Follow the money!!!!

He didn’t throw the game. Bengals just had him figured out. They didn’t execute their defensive strategy until second half. Same shit happened in week 17.

Mahomes didn't choke at all... Sometimes, the defense just gets the better of you. The Bengals really ramped-up their secondary coverage and forced a bunch of coverage sacks, TO and incompletes. In my mind, the biggest mistake KC made was not sticking with the run, which was consistently carving up the Bengals defense in the 1st half. I'm sure McVey will take note of this when he reviews the game tape. Secondary doesn't get enough credit on that team... Go look at the opponent passer rating during the playoffs. The offense, more than anything, just lost balance and Mahomes threw the ball too much after the Bengals adjusted at halftime.

What the hell happened to the play action?! That was Shanahan’s bread and butter. The run setting up the pass. I know they don’t like Jimmy G to turn his back to defense, because bad things happen when does, but they still should have ran at least a few of those. That Rams secondary has a guy who just came out of retirement and was torched by Brady, who had few weapons, a couple of weeks ago. 

On September 2nd, 2020....Patrick Lavon Mahomes II got engaged to be married.  His fiancé and younger, immature brother do him no favors in social media.  

You see other NFL wives out there acting a fool ???  Little brothers out there making headlines with your name on it ???  When that shit happens (Gisele, Rodgers family) it gets shut down fast.... not so in Mahomes' case.

lmao biggest game for the Bengals in how many years and you think the coaches said “hey let’s not play a defense that will stop them for the first half of the game”

It’s obvious what happened here, the NFL told him at halftime that he was supposed to lose this game, that’s why he came out and his body language was so different, now how come the nfl forgot to tell the players BEFORE the end of the first half I don’t know, I’m sure someone in this forum can help us out and explain it to us sheep that think the NFL isn’t scripted

To give him the benefit of the doubt, he may have been concussed or maybe even drugged? The guy I saw out there was not Patrick Mahomes. It was as if some third string QB snatched his body. Do you know that game was the biggest choke job since 1975. The only other home team to blow an 18 point lead was Reid’s Chiefs in 2017 with Alex Smith. That’s how historic the collapse was.

 Actually it's 4 teams that have blown 18+ point leads at Home in Postseason.

1957 Niners vs Lions (led 27-7)

1972 Niners vs Cowboys (led 21-3)

2017 Chiefs vs Titans (led 21-3)

2021 Chiefs vs Bengals (led 21-3)

So just the Niners and Chiefs..

Sorry, McManus, meant to say AFC. I did not have the stats for the NFC. Also, 1975 was when the NFL started to give higher seeds home field advantage. Those NFC games you referenced (pre 1975) might have been played under a different format altogether.

Mahomes simply couldn't get over his eff up end of the 1st half and the score being the same as the 1st game really put 'it can happen again' into the minds of BOTH teams.

It should have been an 18 pt lead at the half and when it wasnt i knew it would go down to the wire, cuz NFL is all about that now

The play calling at the end of the game was ridiculous. Just hand off the ball a few times from the 7 and run the ball in, game over. Like when Seattle passed the ball from the 1 yard line, instead of handing off to the beast. Just plain stupid. I really think these games are rigged.  Like why  Buffalo didn't kick a squib kick at the end of the Buff/KC game. If they did game over.  There's something really weird goingon in the NFL.  They're going for ratings abviously.  It's a joke. The SB has already been decided, trust me. I just wish I knew who it was.
