Chew on this...
The Jets are going to stuff the Bills like a Thanksgiving turkey on Monday night.
The venue has been chosen: Ford Field.
So you get a game in a dome on a Monday night instead of Snowpacalypse in Buffalo.
Which team do you think is looking forward to that scene more? The Bills? In total disarray after last week's atrocious loss the Dolphins? Or the Jets in Rex Ryan's swan song season?
Oh, you'll sit back with your fingers clenched behind your head and elbows akimbo thinking, "Yeah sure! This guy again! I'll take the better team with playoff hopes! Not some team that has given up!"
Well guess what hotshot. The Jets haven't given up. They played hard for Rex right to the bitter end last season with a rookie QB who they knew couldn't lead them much of anywhere and still went 8-8.
Now that QB is gone and a more dependable Vick, also playing to lengthen his career as a trusted backup, are getting a final shot in prime time no less. And it's been two weeks since they manhandled the Steelers.
Playing in Buffalo scared me. The public was taking Buffalo and the number for a combination of bad weather and a better team.
Both are true. Buffalo is covered in 6 feet of snow. Even if it was 6 inches and wind chill temperatures, I would have been deathly afraid of this game. Why? It suits the Bills and Vick is a 'give-up' QB at times (and you don't know when those times are).
Did you see him @ San Diego this year in the blowout? He wanted NO PART of a game where it felt like 95 degrees on the field and the Jets got the doors blown off him.
Now we get the comfy confines of Ford Field.
BUT, this post isn't just about:
A more suitable venue for a Jets win
A prime time game to showcase Rex and Vick who will be looking for employment as season's end (Vick may stay in the end but Rex won't)
Meat Tenderizers and cube steaks
No, I had the Jets capped to win this game straight up regardless.
Why?
Well the last time they played, the Jets were actually the BETTER TEAM (minus the turnovers).
How can he say that? How can he say minus the turnovers? He's not allowed to say that!
Well I just did.
Look at the box score:
Jets won: Time of possession by 5 minutes
Rushing yards by over 100 (175 vs. 67)
Total yards (312-280)
Total first downs (22-12)
3rd down efficiency (9 of 19 vs. 3 for 12)
But Scal, WHAT ABOUT THE TURNOVERS?
Folks, Geno threw an unconscionable 3 INTS in the first quarter and another turnover came in the second and the Jets STILL only trailed by 7 at the half.
I don't have the historical stat but I reckon they are the only team in history to have that small a margin going into halftime with that many turnovers in the first half. Especially one where 41 points were scored (24-17 scored, Jets trailed).
You'd think the score was 41-0? Nope, the Jets defense hung tough and stopped the Bills cold on 3 of the 4 turnovers. It was more of the big plays to Sammy Watkins because the Jets had no pass protection.
The Bills had an average starting field position at their own 49 YARD LINE.
Despite that, the Jets were only trailing by less than 2 TD's 30-17 to start the 4th having then gotten the ball SIX times from the Jets. The game was gift-wrapped...
You didn't turn the game off did you? You shouldn't have. The Jets were still in it.
Now the turnover monkey is off their back. Having only forced 3 turnovers the entire season, the Jets got FOUR in one game vs. the Steelers two weeks ago.with Jaiquan Jarrett being a GODSEND the Jets were in need of all season. He'll start on Sunday.
The Jets will be the better team on Sunday while the Bills pull their famous second half unraveling. This is the team bettors burn their money with down the stretch.
Jets are finally off that atrocious ATS run covering the number last week.
CLIFF NOTES
So you have the Jets:
Coach and QB with jobs on the line.
Prime time
Better field conditions and confines
Bills team that spit the bit on national TV last week vs. the Fins and are playing a revenge game (and a huge one at least in the Jets mind on a neutral field)
Jets off a bye week (which matters as they were banged up themselves in an awful season)
Did I mention the Bills haven't had a single practice for this game yet while the Jets have practiced all week?
Yes, on ESPNradio, it was confirmed the Bills were receiving gameplans for the Jets game....on their Ipads and through facebook updates!
Yeah, try imitating gameday speed and hits on facebook!
The Bills will have a late practice Friday, a full practice Saturday and a walk-through Sunday (which may or may not change since teams usually don't go full bore in practice the day before) and then gameday Monday night.
Not enough time folks.
I had this game capped as a Jets win and gladly took the +4.5 in Buffalo before the storm.
Now that the venue has changed to a neutral field, the line will likely drop 3 pts to Jets +1.5.
If we get to +3 Jets somehow, take it as insurance. But given the Jets won't be favored, put on your chef's hat and start pounding the ML baby!
Meat me at the Bellagio window when this line is posted because the Jets will be a slight underdog and that is the best you will get.
The books are scared right now. Confused, disoriented. They don't know where to put this line. Field is announced but no line is out there. We wait at the window with armfuls of cash to double it as soon as that number hits.
THE PICK:
JETS ML (as long as they are a dog) OVER BILLS!!!
POUND IT
