@Jerseyshore88
Listen if that money is yours that is NOT house money that is YOUR money and with that being said do what you want with YOUR money but with taking a team like the Giants who have lost ten in a row YOUR money most likely will then become the houses money once again....good luck on your Giants

Hmmm.....maybe that will happen.
But would be arguably VERY stupid of the NYG management to allow it, when all they gotta do is LOSE to the COLTS then again next week at PHILLY - to guarantee themselves the prized #1 draft pick! and subsequent top of the order in every round!

This is interesting pick, I might join you on this. I think sometimes this tanking theory can get overblown, cuz teams and fans who support the team religiously, they get sick and tired of getting their asses kicked every week. I don't think very many people who show up at met life tomorrow are rooting for giants to lose so they can get the number 1, which they still might anyway even with a win. Really think the desire to finally get a taste of a win supersedes potential risk falling a notch in the draft.

Ownership and the GM may want a 'tank effort' but players get injured, lose bonuses, get cut and coaches do too.
There mindset is to go out and compete.
If losing even with effort is the by product, then so be it.

The other 2 things of course are:
1/ some or many players are mentally exhausted and/or depressed from their inability to win and enjoy a good season.... ie, a self-fulfilling prophecy of "were going to lose once again"
2/ while many of the players or perhaps most if not all of them will still try their very best on every play - and WILL NOT "tank" either consciously or unconsciously - direction from management to the coaches may request (demand??) risky 4th down gambles when they shouldn't; run the ball when they are in a passing situation; send blitzes in high risk situations which could easily backfire in a score against; cause penalties against themselves, such as time clock violations due to late substitutions; other questionable play-calling; wasting timeouts to put themselves at a significant disadvantage, etc, etc, and all that is REGARDLESS how hard their players are giving their everything trying to win and save some pride......Clever coaching maneuvering can create a situation where a loss is all but inevitable - yet easily defended in slick post-game interviews!
NOT saying this *WILL* happen .....but the rewards of high draft order IN EVERY ROUND may for some teams OUTWWEIGH a win. Then again they are already awful for a reason....

Tom Brady got drafted in the 6th round, Purdy was the last guy picked....Caleb Williams was a number one pick who is never going to be a star.
Putting all of your eggs in the number 1 pick basket isn't a sure thing by any means.
It ruins the psyche of a franchise to deliberately lose games....the 76ers did it for three years, and nothing came of it...it isn't worth it to tank.

@Indigo999
I was thinking along these lines. I mean the only slam dunk number 1 picks I can recall in recent years were Matt Stafford and Andrew Luck. And Detroit and Indianapolis didn't even have to try and tank they were just that bad. I believe the lions were 0-16 and the Colts were 2-14 but were even worse, I remember they were gifted their first win by the referees against Houston.

There is no such thing as house money. It’s either yours or the bookies. If you wouldn’t make the bet with ‘your’ money then you shouldn’t make the bet
