Not to mention the drug addict pill popping coach Sean Payton that story swept that under the rug , he should be drug tested
The Saints are a mess forget it or BURN
Look I'll be the first to admit the Saints are a garbage show but I will try to shed some light on whats going on.
Brees didnt forget how to play football. He is 38 and if he is on the decline, so is Brady. Brees is still playing at a high level.
The problem is the offensive line. We lost LT Armstead before TC. That meant we were forced to play Rookie Ryan Ramcyzk there who is playing decent for a rookie but its a learning curve. Then we lose Strief at RT so now we have to shuffle the Oline around because both Tackles are out and we went into the season with no depth there. C Max Unger didnt get much practice in TC recovering from surgery. Warford isnt playing up to his big contract at Guard. Peat at LG is doing Ok but the running game cant get going.
AP is a distraction because now Payton is trying to give Ingram and him equal touches so neither one can get in a rythm rushing. Kamara will be good later this season. He is a rookie but he has shown flashes. He si making rookie mistakes though.
We lost Snead for 3 games so we only have Thomas thats a sure handed guy at WR. Ginn has always been inconsistent and we are using him as a #2 guy along with Tommy lee Lewis. We arent using the playaction to set up the run which is what we need to do.
On D, we have 6 young guys that have no experience. The entire defense is learning to play together. They look like garbage because they are all learning a new system. The LBs AJ Klein is dropping INTs. Teo is good against the run but he is slow covering anyone. Anzalone is a rookie LB. It will take him some time to adjust to the game but he is playing decent.
The Dline has Jordan who is getting pressure but the QB just has to step up because the DTs arent pushing the pocket. Rankins is in his second year after only playing 9 games and now he has ot be the man. Losing Fairley was a big blow to this defensive line. The other DEs are rotating in depending on the down and distance.
The secondary has S Vacarro as the only vet in the backend. He cant cover the slot. He can cover TE and RBs so he is better in the box. We had him playing deep safety along with rookie Marcus Williams because he is in a contract year and they wanted him to showcase himself. Well he got benched last week because he failed to cover a zone on 3 TDs.. CB-PJ Williams has only 3 games experience. He is an outside CB and we had him in the slot. They put UDFA Harris covering Diggs in the Minnesota game and he got beat 3 times because Vacarro wasnt in the correct position to help him.
Lattimore has been solid in man coverage but got a concussion last week. If we are without him our secondary will be hurting even more. It seems to me they are trying to find out which players belong where to get a look at their strengths an weaknesses.
In 2014 we had a garbage roster along with a horrible draft. All those contracts caught up with us and started the decline. Too much dead money killed any chance of this team competing. In 2015 we fired the scouts, had a subpar draft and we fired Rob ryan after the season. In 2016 we had an ok draft with Ireland in charge of scouting. Dennis Allen was now DC. Injuries depleted the secondary and we had no chance. We lost all our starting CBs by week 3 and we were starting UDFA at CB and guys on the street.
This team is rebuilding. Its the youngest team in the NFC South. They will look like garbage until they can get up to speed. It wont be pretty.
Carolina doesnt have a great OLine. We should be able to generate a better pass rush against a QB that might still be injured and isnt known for accuracy like Bradford and Brady. No Olsen means that 16ppg Carolina is averaging, will take another hit. Their secondary is not what it used to be. If Brees has time he will find open WRs. Carolina doesnt seem like they know how to use McCaffrey from what Ive seen. He might get some yards against this defense but the LBs on the Saints are much faster than previous years even with a slow Teo. Kelvin Benjamin didnt practice. If he is a no go that offense wont do much even agsint this porous defense. If Lattimore can go this week for the Saints they are in trouble but he didnt practice either.
It wont be a pretty game but the Saints have an actual chance to win. The Saints look like garbage right now but in a few weeks the starting tackles will be back. Once we get Breaux back at CB this defense should be better in the second half of the season. Im not saying this team will make a run for the playoffs. They wont but next year with more experience they might have a better chance at a decent season. Good luck whichever way you go.
