As it seems to be an insufficient concept so how about something more earned.....in example
The team that wins the coin toss gets to go first or opt not to in an attempt to make a two-point conversion.
If that team makes it, then the other team gets to take a chance at a two-point conversion and if they make it as well then it goes back to the first team and if they don't then the team that successfully made the two-point conversion gets to have the ball first in overtime.
Sort of like a shootout. What are your guys opinion? Or do you feel that the coin toss is really the right way and only way to go?
Again just a novel of an idea and I think a more competitive and realistic way to decide who gets the ball first rather than a lucky flip of a coin

Rock, paper, scissors should determine it by starting QB’s.
All jokes aside. The team that scored in the final minute to tie the game in regulation, should have to kick off in OT. You can’t be rewarded with back to back possessions of the football because you won a coin toss.

The solution is simple, if game ends tied then just turn off clock and continue game until someone scores. No stoppage of play, no coin flip, just continue just where the ball is and who has it. So simple.

I just want them to get rid of that stupid new kickoff rule.
The NFL is a business even more than college. These dudes get paid millions of dollars and take hits from grown men. They want to get OT over as quickly as possible.

Thanks for popping in guys I appreciate the posts and when you get anything from the heaviest sack of potatoes to be carried to rock paper scissors they all sound better than a flip of coin to decide who gets the ball first and with a touchdown gives the opposition no opportunity whatsoever to have their teams final say so to score a possible touchdown of their own or not to then just lose and to determine the outcome of the game all due to a coin toss.

Very easy, just play a full 10 minute quarter and let both teams score as much as they can in those 10 minutes. Problem solved.
What then if tied after 10 minutes? Tie? Or another 10 minute quarter? I personally would NEVER take an under in an NFL that has any chance at OT if the rules were like college.

Then game ends a tie after the 10 minute quarter. I truly believe this would be the best way to do overtime. This way the game is still played the way the other 4 quarters were played.

CD I think you may be onto something here and it seems most logical now we just need to send this to the league which may be tough since they're always making up their own rules after all it is their league

Exactly! as Cd329 has mentioned as well it just seems so much more sensible to be played in this fashion then a coin toss and a possible loss in one possession to the coin toss winner without the opposition getting a chance to score as well.
Just right there and then when time has expired in regulation and the score being tied just add another 10 minutes on the clock and wherever the ball is at and whatever down it is and whoever's got the ball play it from there and play on and whoever has got the lead after the additional ten minutes of play wins the game.

Those who complain about only one team possessing the ball in OT, simply do not value defense.
If a team's DEFENSE is incapable of stopping the opponent from scoring an offensive TD on the 1st possession, then, perhaps their TEAM (which includes, offense, defense and special teams) is simply not better than their opponent on that day.
