One NFL play today.
NE/NYJ UNDER 42
Another clash of the so-called AFC East rivals in Foxboro tonight. I would call it a riivalry but that entails the games and outcomes would be neck and neck, and that's not the case. The Jets and the Man-genius are 1-5 vs. NE, and averaging only 14 pts. per contest. The Patriots are 11-1 S.U. in their last 12 vs. Nuevo York.
Both offenses love the rush and I don't see it changing tonight. Likewise both defenses in their last three games have been solid giving up an average of 14.7 ppg. This game looks to be another low-scoring affair featuring many RB gives.
The Jets love to run the ball and are 9th in the NFL in rushing offense with 123.4 ypg. In fact, the Jets have run over 200 yds in 2 of their last 4 games. New England is 12th in league in rush defense giving up 100 yds per contest.
Something must give... but I have serious doubts that Mangini lets Favre throw wildly in a meaningful divisional matchup. I think the Jets will continue to run the ball, with the Patriots sans Thomas, whether its successful or not, and burn up the clock. The Pats D should be savvy enough to stop the Jets rush attack. New England gives up an average of 16.5 ppg at home this season.
Without Brady, the Patriots have run the rock much more than in years past. New England is 7th in the NFL in rush offense averaging 133.0 pts. per contest. They will switch up their backs repeatedly and spell their backs accordingly, while continue to smash mouth the opposing defense.
The Jets on the other hand, have a solid rush defense. Unbelievably, the Jets have not allowed any RB to gain 100 yds this season and are 5th in rush D giving up 76.4 ypg. The Jets will be able to contain the combo of Morris and Greene, or whomever is available and Belicheck will have Cassell dinking and dunking when he isn't running the ball ineffectively.
The UNDER is 8-1-2 in Pat's last home games, 3-1 this year at Foxboro and 9-1-2 in their last 12 vs. the AFC. The UNDER is 4-0-1 in Pat's last 5 games overall.
The Jets UNDER is 8-2-1 vs. the AFC, 2-1-1 on the road this year, and 4-1-1 in their last 6 road games overall.
The UNDER is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Foxboro. Couple that with solid run and overall defenses, harsh wintry weather, stubborn playcalling, and offenses predicated on ball management and the rushing attack, this game looks to go UNDER the total tonight on a dismal night in New England.
