Probably the same reason this thread would have been quickly moved to the penalty box if it would have won. Everyone needs a good lesson when bad things happen. His constant reminder of this day can only force him to remember. Thus hopefully forcing him to learn. If he would have won this bet he would have learned nothing and sure enough there would have been a another bet soon to follow of most likely double the size. 

Just thinking out loud though but I could be wrong even though my thoughts on this thread feels right...

This is untrue. I should have said everyone needs a good lesson when bad decisions are made. Bad things can happen even from good decisions...
