After a week of contemplating these really tough games, here are my thoughts and plays.
Rams @ Packers
I think the week off will be huge this year for the Packers and Chiefs. These teams fought hard for that bye week and now they get to make it pay off. The Rams have the advantage in coaching and defense, but Goff is a huge liability. The Rams are also coming off three hard fought divisional battles, with the stakes getting higher after each game. I think those games surely took some of the steam out of this team, with some key players getting banged up, and we should see the effects of those battles this week. The Rams defense is truly impressive, but I think the Packers defense will be insulted by all the talk about the ferocious Rams D and they’ll rise to the occasion by making a statement of their own. I really believe the game will be decided in the battle between these groups as the Packer offense and Rams defense will cancel each other out. Nonetheless, Rodgers will be ready. After seeing what that defensive line did to Wilson, I expect a lot of misdirections, screens and play action to slow that pass rush down. Whichever team turns the ball over probably loses, and in this regard I trust Rodgers over Goff any day of the week.
Browns @ Chiefs
The Browns played their SB last week, and even then they were not that impressive. The Steelers dominated the game after spotting the Browns 28 points, what do you think the Chiefs are going to do if they don’t gift the Browns the kinds of points the Steelers did?! As if the Chiefs are not motivated enough, Odell Beckham foolishly tweeted tonight that the Browns are going to shock the Chiefs, to which Mahomes responded with a heart/like!! What a low IQ moron that Odell is. After hearing about their demise for two weeks, and how they have barely won the games they’ve won, I expect the Chiefs to make a BIG statement in this game. The Browns offense will not be able to keep up with the Chiefs, and they should cover the big spread against the Browns, who are public dogs!
Did I mention that Rodgers and Mahomes are the two quarterbacks the NFL wants to see most in the Championship round?
Nonetheless, I’ll play these games safe due to the big spreads:
Packers + Chiefs ML parlay 5 units to win 3
Ravens @ Bills
The Ravens are a team built for winter. As much as like Allen, the Bills look like a middleweight team in comparison to the heavyweight Ravens (like Roy Jones going up against Mike Tyson). The Ravens are big and stout at every position. They will win the line of scrimmage, but unlike the Colts they will not let the Bills off the hook. They will punish them for the entire game until they give in. The Ravens defense and running game are far superior to the Bills, who only have a prolific passing game going for them. But with the weather being what it is, I see Allen struggling with the passing game. The Ravens are also coming into this game with a lot of momentum; with the monkey off their back, this older, more mature Ravens team is finally ready to take the next step. Meanwhile the Bills are just relieved to not have choked the game away against the Colts. Although I believe the wrong team is favored, I’ll gladly take the points just in case.
Ravens +3 for 3 units
Buccaneers @ Saints
The toughest game to call, IMO, is Buccaneers at Saints, a game I have been going back and forth on for the entire week. I started out loving the Buccaneers but have slowly come to see the virtues of backing the Saints. They are the more complete team, but will that translate to a win and:or cover? I’m going to wait to see the results of the Saturday games before I make a call on this one.
