The Rams might have more motivation to win than the Saints...and other thoughts on Week 2

Question

This is not your typical revenge game. And the reason is the Rams have as much incentive to prove their SB was deserved (despite the no call) and shut everybody up, as the Saints have to get revenge. If the Rams lose, they'll have to listen to talk of how the Saints should have been in the SB for another 15 weeks. But if they win, and win convincingly, some of that talk will surely go away. Not only do the Rams have as much incentive as the Saints, but they are at home! And the Saints our playing outside the dome on a short week.

The Play: Rams -2

Rodgers still has not gotten his revenge on the Vikes for that late hit from a couple of years ago. Last year, in a game they should have won, the Packers let the Vikings come back and tie the game. I don't expect hiccups this time around. With the extra days to prepare, Rodgers will be ready. Besides, doesn't it just feel like GB will be a contender this year?

The Play: Packers -2.5

We're on to Cincinnati!

The 49ers stayed in Ohio this week, which tells me they really, really want this game and think they have a chance to make some noise this year. Obviously, they are trying to get their bodies adjusted to the early start time on the East Coast Time. I'm not worried about their running back injuries and I'm expecting Jimmy G to have a better game. Rumors are circulating that if he does not show progress Mullins might replace him. That kind of pressure can go two ways: if he preses then the results won't be good, but if he is motivinst by the challenge (which I think he will be) he'll have a good game. I know nothing about Cinci this year except they lost a game they should have won against Seattle. Maybe that means they are good? Anyway, they are in a weird scheduling spot with a home game sandwiched between 3 road games, which kind of makes this another road game for them. If the Niners bring the same kind of pressure against Dalton that they did last week, I think we will see more turnovers. Even though it is a big ask for the 49ers to beat two teams in their home openers, the reverse line movement tells me its SF or no play.

The Raiders played way over their heads on Monday night. That was their SB. Expect them to come back down to earth this week, especially that defense (when Flaco finally woke up, the Broncos scored 16 in the 2nd half, and it really should have been a lot more).

Rams will struggle this year with good running football teams. Saints is a bad matchup for them IMO.

Niners did not have to stay in Ohio. In most cases, teams fly back home. But I listened to a long interview with Lynch about why they stayed. It&#x27;s about the body clock issue, it&#x27;s about the stress travel puts on banged up players (not allowing them to heal), and it&#x27;s also about the guys bonding by being on the road together (going out to dinners, etc). Also recall, Niners ownership has ties in Ohio. Of course, they would not be doing any of this if they thought their team did not have a great chance at competing for a playoff spot.

From what I recall, the games become tougher to pick after week 4 (lines become sharper, injuries, travel become a bigger issues, tanking starts to happen), so I would not worry just yet.

LC is doing his thing in a more controlled setting, which is good for him. I don&#x27;t play O/U /, for good reason (I suck at it), so I&#x27;m not sure how this one will go. Remember the SB, two of the most high powered offenses ever? But then again, neither coach in this game is like BB.

Thanks fellas,I was worried about the Packers in the second half but Cousins is terrible (thank God) and the Packer defense is pretty good this year. Now they gotta get the offense going. The Saints caught a tough break but Rams could have let down when DB got hurt, we&#x27;ve see that plenty of times, and Bridgewater kept them in the game until the second half, when the wheels came off. Gotta say, not impressed with Goff. He may win a SB one day, but I hate his game and, most of all, his demeanor. It&#x27;s like watching Ryan Gosling play QB. Too bad Big Ben got hurt, I expect SF will now be favored by a TD? I&#x27;m hoping Ben plays, so we get a better line. Gotta look more into that Carolina game, but -2.5 seems too good to be true. As bad as Rivera is, I don&#x27;t think any of his teams have dropped the first three games since he has been there,

It&#x27;s a very strong angle indeed, and this a bit of a letdown spot now for the Niners after two big road wins. I was listening to a former player on the radio today, and he said if the Niners want to go into the bye 3-0 the coaches will have to push the players (and themselves) harder this week to prepare for the Steelers than they ever have done before. At first this sounded counterintuitive, but I think it makes complete sense, considering the two road wins and then coming home to play a Steeler team without their HOF QB. This might be a bigger test for the Niners (living up to the expectations of a 7 point favorite after winning a couple on the road) than playing as underdogs with zero expectations. Still, if anyone can do it, this coaching staff can. I have zero respect for Tomlin as an x/o&#x27;s guy. When he has the horses, he can motivate players like nobody else can, but now that he doesn&#x27;t Shanahan should run circles around him. As long as the Niners don&#x27;t have a huge letdown, they&#x27;ll win. Covering is another matter.

Already acknowledged it. Can you read. But there was also the possibility of a letdown with the star out theory, which the rams overcame. And oh, btw. The line was -3 at the half with DB out! So he was only worth an extra 3 points! And the rams covered that as well. ,
