The PI and the offensive holding calls are more terrifying than VAR, in Amer. football. I dread every game, thinking, "are they gonna turn back great plays today? Stop momentum buiding drives with phantom calls? Or help a team on a 3rd and long with PI?

It's always there, back of the mind, lurking. 

VAR offsides though are helpful. Holding and PI are completely subjective and non reviewable, so definitelymore terrifying for a bettor than soccer.
