Ended up being one of the more boring games of the week. I stated this in my thread, but I really feel that this was more a case of Redskins failing to cover than the Giants covering. Still not impressed with the Giants, but even less so with the Skins. Unless I see something later that I don't see now, neither of these teams are worth a bet next week.
Atlanta/Detroit
Detroit lost this game in the 1st quarter. However, I am going to look into fading ATL next week. Ryan is not that good. Turner is not that good. Although they have that lovable underdogs thing going for them, so I may hold off on the fading until they give me reason to.
When judging quarterbacks, there are all the skills that you see in the statistics and show up on paper. However, there is a certain quality that winning qbs have that you cant even put into words. It is an x factor that makes an athlete more than just a good athlete, and puts them on the next level. Tom Brady has it. Peyton Manning has it. Just a natural essence of being a leader. Jon Kitna does not have it, and will never lead a football team very far.
Players I was impressed with: Michael Turner, Calvin Johnson.
Cincy/Baltimore
As I predicted, the under hit without much difficulty. The Bungles are terrible, and I think it is time that they give up on this group of guys ever becoming anything and enter a rebuilding process. It is only game one, but this was ugly. Very ugly.
Chris Perry showed that the Bengals were wrong for trusting him as a featured rb. However, before I completely pass judgment on him, I want to see him against a weaker D. Many rbs look awful vs the Ravens.
That brings me to those Ravens. They looked great. Remember when they won the Super Bowl with Brad Johnson. Johnson was just told not to fuck it up for the D. That is kinda what Flacco's job is, but I do expect him to grow as a passer. He actually threw the ball real well, there were a ton of balls he threw that could have been caught that werent. This team is going to stay in a lot of games, and could surprise. Also, they are fun to watch.
Player who impressed: Flacco
Player who didnt: the entire Bengals roster
Seattle/Buffalo
I thought Buffalo would win this game. I didn't think it would by by this much. I don't like the hawks offense, but I thought they had a solid D, and Buffalo put up 34 on them! Thats including a td reception by a Defensive End!
Its early in the season, but the Bills could be a playoff team. Edwards started off weak, but finished strong. Interesting to see of the Hawks are really this bad. I wouldn't be surprised to see them only win 5 or 6 games this year.
Player who impressed me: Robert Royal...fantasy players get him on the waiver wire. Hes gonna be a solid TE all year
NYJ/MIA
I hate Favre being all over the news, but he did a good job today with his receiving corps. Both of these teams showed improvement from last year, but the Dolphins need to establish a running game if they want to be in games this year. Pennington throwing 40+ times is not a good thing. Favre showed leadership and, most importantly, didn't throw any ints. One thing that worries me though: Laverneus Coles 1 catch for 5 yards. They need to establish chemistry for this team to succeed.
Players who impressed: Favre, Anthony Fasano
KC/New England
Wow, I had a huge teaser that had the Pats at -5.5, and I was sweatin this one. If Stuckey is right, and Bradys gone for the year, the Pats are in trouble. Matt Cassell is a backup, and nothing more. Hell, he was a backup in COLLEGE! He can still win games, but he wont be blowing out opponents. In fact, it reminds me exactly of AJ Feeley when he took over for McNabb that year and went 4-1. All he did was not fuck up, and thats what Cassell is going to have to do
That being said, he did what he had to do. 13 of 18 and 0 ints. For that, i tip my hat to him, but I will not be wagering my money on him. KC isn't worth a writeup, their d played alright but that team just sucks
Players who impressed: Cassell, Malroney
NO/TB
I was not at all impressed with Jeff Garcia. You have to complete more passes vs this team. I can only imagine the collective thought of all TB fans (i wish we had favre). However, this team's strengh is that they spread the ball around, and that is always going to make them dangerous. They dont have a number one, but they will score a bit and play in a lot of games with scores like 20-16. I was very surprised to see Ernest Graham put up great numbers, I really thought last year was a fluke.
The Saints were the Saints, a ton of long throws, and relying on the "big play" Ill be looking to take the over in their games. I also really like the rb combo of Bush and Thomas. This could be the year that Bush finally breaks out.
Who impressed: Thomas, Bush, Brees, Graham
Who really sucked: Colston
