Yeah, but let's not forget that even with his fumbles, Adrian Peterson also accounted for 125+ of those 450+yds on the ground, not to mention a few of those Minnesota TDs, point being that New Orleans had to play the "run" more than they will against Indy, assuming of course that Indy's run/pass ratio resembles that of the regular season/playoffs so far...

Like I said earlier in another thread, I expect the Saints secondary to keep everything IN FRONT of them, forcing Manning to go underneath more often than not (or more than he wishes imo), and yes, I expect Wayne to move the chains and Dallas Clark to be Dallas Clark. What I do NOT expect is more than a scant few deep balls to be hauled in by the likes of Garcon or Collie, who are more comparable in size to the Saints' corners, as opposed to New Orleans big WRs Colston, Meachem, & of course Henderson who outsize Indy's young albeit fast corners and therefore should be able to 'go up and get it' in a deep, "jump-ball" or backside pass situation/attempt downfield. Timing will be of the utmost importance if Manning and co. are to be successful on downfield throws, especially with Sharper lurking in the secondary. Indy's corners can and will be beaten at least as often as New Orleans' corners, who are finally healthy with a big win under their collective belts now.

... while my comments sound "one-sided" or whatever, and should your mind already be made-up as an Indy backer/bettor, then merely think of this thread and my retorts as your "devil's advocate" and nothing more. I simply cannot ignore two main factors when approaching this match-up:

1) Indy has historically had more trouble against teams that possess HIGHER SCORING, higher-powered offenses as opposed to "great" defenses, which brings me to the second deciding factor ---

2) Nobody in the NFL scored as many points as the New Orleans Saints did during the regular season, and they put up equally impressive totals against Arizona and even Minnesota.

Anyone who doesn't believe that the Saints can indeed trade punches with the Colts and the great Peyton Manning must not be watching the same games that I have watched.

they can trade punches but look at the secondary's brees has faced the vikes, n cardnials...most ppl thought that was the vikes weakness along with the cardnials, n i wasnt impressed at all with brees in the gm vs the vikes..how ever if u watched the jets number one defense even with the shut down corner in revis, manning destroyed them..n whats saints 2ndary ranked i no in the 20's in the nfl...so i beleive its gonna be high scoring both defenses not that good, but manning has impressed me more then brees in the 2nd half of gm's...colts by 10

Cool... but check out the Saints INT totals this year my friend; Sharper was a one-man ball hawk after all. All I know is that while the Saints have larger than average WRs in Meachem, Colston, and Henderson (Shockey ain't exactly little either) and while they get to face two albeit speedy but more importantly, ROOKIE corners of average size, Indy's WRs, Wayne, Garcon, and Collie are NOT big in stature and will not enjoy the same kind of height advantage, and I fear that any "jump-balls" or high passes that are not timed well or "in-stride" to Garcon and Collie in particular will likely get defended, batted away, or worse --- picked-off.

Something to think about...

who cares what the saints "have"done, the fact is can u see them doing that against manning? n i cant just my opinion...n what bout brees's 2nd half vs vikes u cant say that was great, n im pretty sure they had those larger than avg wr's in those gms, vikes are not a big 2ndary, n yes sharper has gotten picks, but also what the saints have done is beatn by the bucs n let me tell you they have a great defense haha there defense was playin that gm too

Then again, Manning may just not miss/not throw behind these guys sunday night at all, but if he does make a mistake either a little short or even a little high, it could be "up for grabs" as they say...

Ppl got to understand, it's all a matchup game. Why does the Colts have a hard time with the Chargers??????? If the Jets didn't beat the Chargers and the Chargers played the Colts, I wouldn't be so sure the Colts would be in the Superbowl right now...lots of ifs, etc....

BUT the Saints offense are built like the Chargers...there receivers are BIG just like the Chargers Recievers.

On paper/scheme,,,,the Saints & Chargers offense are mirror images of each other. Hands down the better offense are the Saints IMO.

Defensively, the edge has to go to the Saints - Greg Williams for having 2wks to prepare like you mentioned and Colts playing without a healthy Freeney.

Correct choi, and the Colts' corners clearly had trouble with those big Charger WRs you mentioned... I would expect them to encounter similar difficulties covering the Saints bigger-than-average WRs for 60 minutes in the biggest game of the year, not to mention the biggest game in those young Colts' corners careers.

Like I said, it looks like we are on the same page, harping on the same undeniable points and concerns w/ the rookie Colt corners in particular. Could be the difference in the outcome of the game methinks...

I am open to all angles but this got to be the worst angle to pick if you are looking to fade the Saints.

remember the saints had a lot of "big plays" and the colts dont allow alot of big plays, yes the jets had two. One where lacey stumbled a tad and the wildcat option they ran.
Saints can't do that and nor will they, they can't play the short pass game

Quality post - Sedrick Ellis is key to NO's defense. He and many others missed several games towards the middle to end of the season, which takes away from NO's defensive stats. If you isolate games where they had their staters, which form a solid to above average defense, you will be suprised.

This is just plain stupid, the same was said about teams that lost their last 3 games in the regular season, had never advanced to the SB. I think the Saints are playing on Sunday hmmmmmm.............

thx charlie, and yes bhindthscene, having all of the Saints' defenders healthy and playing together once again, especially in the secondary, should make a big difference (as compared to the skeleton crew that faced the Bucs, for instance), and could lead to an extra turnover here or there via a tipped/deflected pass that is intercepted, and that might be the difference in the outcome of the game ultimately.

Unlike some, I am giving New Orleans MORE than just a puncher's chance at glory sunday night. In a nutshell of sorts, I simply believe that New Orleans' slightly more balanced offense will provide a challenge for the Colts that they haven't yet faced this year.

Colts Defense gave up alot of big plays vs. Pats earlier this yr. That game was a shootout. Wait til Colts D matchup against Saints. They are in for a shocker.

how bout the gm's the saints lost? how good did those big wr's play?..n the comback vs the redskins?? really its the redskins im sure u watched them play this season...but anyways the fact is the saints have had some pretty bad gm's..i cant say that for the colts..also this is the saints 1st rodeo, alot of the colts have played even in a superbowl in MIAMI but good posts n good luck

n to say that the saints r more "balanced" is ridiculous..the colts r a different team there short passing gm is like a running gm..also i beleive the colts will have great gm running bc the saints will fear the pass..just watch out for brown n addai to break some huge runs on hb draws n screens since the saints r going to "try" n blitz manning alot

also the saints cornerback gay has a stomach virus...not good, missed practice..n when u miss a superbowl practice not bc of injury but a virus is not a good situation...peyton will have him puking come sunday

You sure sound confident NcState, good luck to you, but don't be surprised if the Saints almost pull off the improbable. And this is coming from a guy who liked the Pats to cover against both Philly and Carolina in their 2nd and 3rd SB appearances, but was wrong. Very different dynamics at play here, Saints can score from anywhere on the gridiron as I think you must agree... like I have been saying, MORE than just a "puncher's chance" for the Saints sunday nite...

Great thread w many non-obvious points made  (as opposed to Manning is great, therefor Indy wins).   The Saints did not play well against Minn.  They are too talented to play poorly in B2B games of importance.   I expect much better execution today.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if the opposite happens for Indy, who had a solid game vs NYJ  (meaning they don't click on all cylinders).   And both Bal and NYJ played right into Manning's hand with lousy play calling near the end of the 1st H. Instead of running out the clock, both teams gave him a chance to work his 2 minute magic and drive for TDs, changing the complexion of both games.  Indy had been anything but dominant in both those games until those late 1st H scores.  Manning may show his greatness via a come from behind late winning drive, but I'm betting NO stays within a field goal.
