@Lucky Luciano
Fair points, but someone has to give a proper devil's advocate opinion for arguments sake. I won't be betting on this game, but here goes nothing...
Even though the Titans made improvements to this year's roster, keep in mind that the Bears have been doing the same for the last 2 years(3rd offseason with new gm and HC).
The free agent pickups and drafting by this organization has been near flawless.
Hear me when I say this, the Bears will have the best secondary in the nfl this year. They have 3 cornerbacks that could start for any team in the nfl. They should have the strongest Nickel package in the nfl. At free safety, Kevin Byard was a decent pickup. But more importantly was getting rid of Eddie Jackson. Imo he was the weakest link of this defense the last 2 years.
While the main storyline in Chicago is that they need another DE to pair with Montez Sweat, I don't think they are in bad shape with Demarcus Walker, newly acquired DE Darrell Taylor from Seattle, and rookie Daniel Hardy has shined all of pre season. The common fan wants another stud opposite of Sweat, but the gm has to balance money and assets(future draft picks). And Ryan Poles has done a terrific job.
The LB core is stout. One of the best pass coverage units in the nfl. And let's not forget, that the Bears run D was one of the best in the league last year. This also includes the interior D line.
As far as the offense goes, their weakest link last year was at center. They got rid of Cody Whitehair and Lucas Patrick. These guys were horrible. Bringing in Ryan Bates and Coleman Shelton weren't blockbuster moves, but a definite upgrade.
At RB DeAndre Swift will be an upgrade. Over in Philly they seem to think that signing Saquon Barkley in place of swift was a huge upgrade. I betcha they'll have the same output. If Swift does better it wouldn't shock me. Khalil Herbert is a legit #2, and still a #1 caliber guy imo. He played hurt most of the year last year, he's much healthier. These 2 guys should get a close to even split which will keep them healthy down the stretch.
Either the best FB, or #2, in the nfl resides on this roster in Khari Blasingame.
There's not much to say about the wr room. Moore, Allen, and Odunze are a triple threat that will be a challenge for most secondaries to cover.
So to your point(and the trends show it), a rookie qb in their first game have had a horrible track record. But you have to ask yourself if a rookie qb has ever been thrown in a better situation/roster than Caleb Williams has? Most rookie qb's starting out of the gate are on a roster that's rebuilding. I think the Bears have just about finished their rebuild.
Caleb might not be great week 1, but I don't think that he will have to. One thing I've noticed in camp and the preseason is that EVERY Bears qb on the roster did very well. This system that new OC Shane Waldron is running seems to be QB friendly. If you look at his past stops, Russell Wilson cooked when he was in Seattle. After Russ left he fell off a cliff. Geno Smith was a travesty with the Jets, then went to Seattle and revived his career under Waldron. Just something to think about.
Good Luck this season
