NFL owners approve massive revamp to kickoff play

In essence, the format will move the majority of the kicking and return teams downfield to minimize high-speed collisions. It will go into effect for one year only in anticipation of possible tweaks over time.

The first game features the 2023 USFL champion Birmingham Stallions taking on the 2023 XFL champion Arlington Renegades at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on Fox. Curt Menefee will call the game from Choctaw Stadium with analyst Joel Klatt while Brock Huard patrols the sidelines.

Game two pits the St. Louis Battlehawks against the Michigan Panthers from Detroit’s Ford Field at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT on Fox. Kevin Kugler will handle play-by-play, with Devin Gardner as an analyst and Jake Butt as the sideline reporter.

This year, the NFL compensated players an additional $393.8 million in performance-based pay for the 2023 season. The program compensates players based on their playing time and salary levels with the intent to give additional money to players who performed beyond their contracts.

For Purdy,

Barring unforeseen significant injuries,  I have to agree.  But injuries can and do upset great plans, which is why I rarely place bets before a season begins on any props.

Round 1 will begin on Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET
