Houston Texans @ Carolina Panthers

 Cam Newton did the impossible a year ago, turned the worst offense in the league from 2010 into a high scoring, 25ppg  & 390 ypg, legitimate offense in 2011. The home team here should come out excited and ready to play for their home crowd who has been rejuvenated by the new face of the franchise. The Panthers Defense last year was not good (23rd scoring defense) but I think that bodes well for the Panthers here in preseason. The word form training camp is that there is major emphasis on sharpening up the D. The new addition Luke Kuechly from Boston College is said to be “as advertised” and young linebackers typically are out for blood in the preseason, especially when fighting for the starting job, as he is. Defensive end, Charles Johnson, has been urged by the coaches to be more aggressive. Coach Rivera claims that basically all the D Tackles are battling it out and competition for positions means effort and aggression through the whole game. Last year in two Away Preseason games the Texans scored 30, and 0 pts.  However, their 30 point outing was in week 3 and included 3 FG’s, and a pick 6 by the Defense. The Texans made the playoffs last year and I expect their first team offense to take a few reps and be done.  Go with Carolina – 3 tonight.
