Cognitive dissonance occurs when a person's beliefs do not complement each other or when they hold two contradictory beliefs. It causes a feeling of discomfort that can motivate people to try to feel better. People may do this via defense mechanisms, such as avoidance.

I heard radio interview few months ago… they were discussing pete rose… it was just after his passing…. It was one of the old baseball commissioners… and they asked him at the end of the new NIL and the legality of gambling in states… and he said within 10-15 years the integrity of sports as a whole … would slowly deteriorate to the point of him saying….. it’s gonna ruin sports as we know it. Just sharing this….. money has ruined man about 100% of the time…. Over time.
If the challenge flag is in the field of play before the snap it is legal. And it was. Very different than waiting to see if the other team is going to kick a field goal or try to convert fourth down and then deciding after the official has been told that the penalty is declined, that you’ve changed your mind and decided to accept it. If this was to happen on every penalty in every game it would be deemed intolerable very quickly.
At the very least, you should be charged with a timeout for doing this. If you don’t have one it should be a delay of game. And here’s another question- if this is actually legal, how many times can you do it? Can you decline, then accept, and then decline again?
