As a non-american that loves american sports i have a hard time trying to understand what goes on in every state of america and i have a hard time trying to figure out the self-perception within these states. Like, idk if people from Philadelphia are generally bigger Flyers fans, Phillies fans, Sixers fan or Eagles fan. Its stuff like that i cant figure out. Now with the recent change in NFL i hope some of you can enlighten me.
So it seems that Rams moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles and Chargers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles, right? So now we have two LA teams. Which team will people in LA support, and which team will they support more? Lets say Rams and Chargers make it to the playoffs, will Rams fan then be cheering for Chargers if they are still in it or are those two things no related? I wonder the same thing about the Clippers and the Lakers and stuff like that.
Hope you understand my question. Thanks.

A lot of LA people moved there from somewhere else, so there are a ton of fans of other teams.
When LA had the Raiders and Rams, the Raiders were a lot more popular, and there are still a ton of Raiders fans.
Because the Rams moved to LA first, there will be a lot more Rams fans than Chargers fans. (The Rams sold out a lot of season tickets in a few hours while the Chargers still haven't sold out and they play in a tiny stadium)
But, because it is LA, whichever teams wins the most will probably get a lot of bandwagon fans. LA mostly only supports winning teams.

I live in Ventura County which is about 1 hour north of LA, I can tell you there are more Cowboys fans than Rams and Chargers fans put together here. I've been a Raider fan since 91 and I love the Raiders move to Vegas. From Ventura to Oakland 363 miles, Ventura to Las Vegas 305 miles.

I live here and let me explain from my point of view...
As a Miami Dolphins fan, Ive lived in LA my why life... WHY? Because we didn't get teams until this past year. What was I suppose to wait when i was 15 and not pick a team until another 10 years ?
The problem the teams are going to have now is they are going to have to wait for the youngins grow up. The 10 year olds and below and hope and pray their parents don't lure them into the family team.
The Rams and the Chargers suck. You cant just move here and expect everyone thats been living here to just switch teams...
SO to answer your question...
I believe their are more fans to these teams outside LA than in the actual city. We have too much going on over here. The Lakers, The Dodgers, USC football, UCLA basketball, Clippers, Angels .. And now add the Chargers and Rams ? Its crowded as F**K over here.

Everyone has a unique reason as to why they root for the team they do. Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States, and not only does it have a large native population, it has huge number of transplants from other cities.
As others have mentioned, this is one of the reasons why you'll have a lot of people here who root for the teams they cheered for while growing up.
I'm a San D...strike that. I'm a Los Angeles Chargers fan. I've been one since the Tolliver and Friesz days in the early 90s. Some of the other people that chimed in about the two new teams that moved to L.A. -- the Rams and the Chargers -- failed to mention how winning breeds fanship. Bandwagon fans eventually turn into hardcore ones. The Rams don't look like a team ready to win anytime soon, although maybe with Sean McVay and Wade Phillips in the fold, that will change.
The Chargers are one of those teams that could've had a drastically different record last year, had they not suffered even a fraction of the injuries they had (most injuries in the NFL last year), and held on to the leads they had in half of the games they ended up losing in the 4th quarter. No excuses, but I expect Anthony Lynn to tighten the screws this year.
Looking forward to the upcoming season, but first things first ... the NFL DRAFT!
