They should have definitely gone for 2. Not sure there is an argument against it.
As an Eagles bettor at -6, I was actually happy they didn't. I don't need to have wagers decided on a coinflip. But there is absolutely no way you can say from a football game theory standpoint that not going for two was even remotely the right decision.

Honesty...I rather be up 13 with 4 minutes to go than possibly up only 12 with missed 2 point conversion.......The kicker has to make 2....33 yard FG extra point attempts if they even get there, which are long odds......There is no right or wrong...Miami Dolphins kicker missed an Extra Point in a dome after a TD to go up 3 late vs the chargers...So its not a gimme by any means.

Sirianni didn't played the game correctly last week either he has a 5 point lead with 2 minutes left and he's going on 4th and 4 from the 50 instead of punting and no one said how stupid that was which puzzled me since they turned the ball over to the Patriots to win the game . He's a stupid coach it don't matter how many games you win if you have the players.

But with this position.... You are assuming that YOU are going to make the EP?
Dont forget they Eagles also had to make an EP to be up 13.

Also if you are only up 12 and Minny scores a TD to cut it 5...and say they recover the onside kick...then all then need is a TD to win with no extra point needed for the win make or miss.. and depending on how much time..they go for 2 to make it a 3 point game.....So many what if's..

Agreed . I don’t think this was as bad the Mike vrabel 4th down call last week to kick a field goal though. Like you said though I’d rather know worse case outcome for us eagle backers -6 is just a push then a potential loss .

Van——posted the same thing in the Penalty Box, where I reside when I post. I obviously agree—-no good argument against it.
Good luck this season, Van.

I respectfully disagree. There are only three scenarios, up by 12, 13 or 14. With the first two, two TDs would have beaten them. I said the same thing as you as the possible explanation but it's not a good one.

exactly -- I just hopped on to ask this very question, and I didn't have a dog in the fight...going up by 13 means you think the Vikes could get a TD and 2 FGs, in only 4 minutes of game time...otherwise a 13 point lead is no better than a 12 point lead...just a stupid call, as so many of these NFL coaches seem to make when it comes to in-game decisions...I was dumbfounded when I heard on the radio they were going for the extra point

Zero chance obviously of Minnesota kicking 2 FG and scoring 1 TD Just a stupid decision, plain and simple no way around it Only way that decision looks good is if Minnesota kicker misses a PAT but the odds on that are extremely low of course LOL at an NFL Head coach not having the sense to go for 2 right there Truly inexplicable
hah, you wrote pretty much what I just wrote...a 10-cent decision by Philly side

Time is the deciding factor. I can see it if it is still earlier in the 4th but with only little only 4 mins left.....

some of the coaching decisions we see nowadays makes you want to vomit. This is the new NFL. Going for it on 4th down in a scoreless game, not kicking field goals when they are easily in range, mismanaging timeouts and the game clock, I could go on and on…

I don't need to have wagers decided on a coinflip.
This is what most games end up being now, and it's all by design. You WILL end up in many coin flip situations if you bet the NFL these days. I think it's gotten worse since gambling on sports became legal in the US, or maybe I was too young and dumb to notice it the first 20 years I spent gambling on it, but it's super obvious to me now.
The bookie I use (I still bet on horse racing, baseball, rugby) is doing a new thing where any NFL moneyline bets where your team goes up 14 pts or more are paid out immediately as a win (before the game is even over). Same with 2 goal leads in soccer.
Philly had already taken a 14+ lead in the 3rd q so you would have already cashed then, but if you had a team not go for 2 in that situation and then lose you'd really be furious.
I still can't figure why they didn't do it. I can see not doing it early in the game but late on you definitely should. And in fact I think you should if you can go up 3 scores even if it's sort of early, like they should have done it when they could have made it 28-7. That, and the holding/no PI, back to back sacks were two times the game could have been pushed to 3 scores and strangely it seemed like decisions by refs, coaches AND players were made not to allow it.
So what's the explanation?
Only thing I can think of is Jeff Bezos is a very powerful man... and he's not REALLY letting you watch those games for free. A LOT of TNF games last year were coin flips.

Thats understatement. Check out the politics forum if you want confirmation. As it relates to the original point of this thread you go for two every time. There is no benefit being to 13 vs 12.
