If you showed a 10 year-old street hustler in Yemen a picture of Mark Sanchez, he'd probably wrinkle his nose in disgust and spit in the photo's general direction.
The world knows the Jets screwed the proverbial pooch last week. The world knows they lost Revis and Holmes. The world knows the Texans are one of the darlings of the NFL so far (despite their cake schedule, and that's noteworthy). It's David vs. Goliath and David left his sling shot at home.
So pretend you're an odds maker for this game. You know exactly what public perception is, and you know exactly what your computer algorithms are telling you the outcome of the game is likely to be, give or take a margin of error. And they set the line at -9, a single digit number. They know damn well who the public will bet on with that spread.
They're inducing action on the Texans side of the wagering line, on the biggest game of the week. If it wasn't MNF, this line of thinking loses some of it's value. The public has to win sometimes, and the public did pretty well on Sunday. But in my experience, sports-books rarely induce action on the public side of a MNF game, especially if they just paid the public on Sunday night.
This money is on loan, and they'll be collecting payments starting Monday night.
Take the Jets +9 and collect payments with them.

Also people forget how complicated capping a game can be. They see Sanchez vs. the Texans and go place their bet accordingly. The Jets will be 110% focused for this game after last week. The Texans probably think 90% effort will get it done against this sub-par opponent. The Jets have nothing to lose. Mike Westoff probably has some special teams plays that he's been waiting for a rainy day to break out, and for the Jets, it's raining.
If the Rams can destroy the Cardinals, the Jets can give the Texans all they can handle.

WTF does the Rams vs the Cards have to do with the Texans and the Jets??? The Rams destroyed the Cards because they are overrated and their offense sucks. That team could easily be 1-4. The Jets offense was putrid prior to the injury of Holmes. Without him they virtually have no deep threat whatsover. Texans D is gonna eat Sanchez alive. Take the Jets if you want to but if you cant score you cant cover. Houston hangs 28 easily. Now you have to ask yourself how many the Jets can score.

9 is a lot in the NFL, doesnt have to be double digits. Jets are home on Monday night, thats at least worth a point. Once Holmes was ruled out, the line never moved. Vegas has this line right on.

Were all the games you mentioned Monday night games? No. Read the whole post before commenting and making yourself look foolish.

That game is easy to cap now that you've seen it, yeah? If that game was so easy to predict why was the public on Arizona? Public perception.

Jets really do have subpar talent at nearly every position. This texans team is loaded. Having said that i could see them putting an inspired effort in but if the texans play their A game the jets have no chance. To me this games a no play

I can't see how the Jets are going to stop the run though. And the Texans have a top D. Not sure how the Jets are going to score many points with how awful they look right now.
