1. The more you know, is NEVER the less you know. Knowledge is super powerful.
2. Because of high odds that sports wagers deal with. Hence, 10 points fav in NBA, for example, wins a lot and that's easy wager because odds on that game are low, but because odds on other games are higher and extremley high (big dogs) that's what makes it difficult. Again, high odds make it difficult.

What Van is trying to say is you should parlay as much as possible to get rid of the vig.
Nope. He's saying play w multiple books, and better yet- most locals worth a crap charge 5% big now days (some no juice) with more than one line to choose from.
Other than that, quit teasers, parlays, and just betting because you think a team is better than the other.

We all know sports like the back of our hand but yet we are all losing gamblers. I don't get it at all. It seems the more you know about sports the less you really know.
Great question. Lots of great answers, most are valid.
For my money, the main reason that good handicappers lose is in a word, TURNOVERS!
You can handicap all aspects and angles of every game down to the most minute detail. However, the one thing that you can NEVER handicap are turnovers.
An inferior team that wins the turnover battle will not only screw your pick ATS, but will often win the game outright.
Think about how many times an interception that is returned for a td, or a fumble scooped up and returned for a td has either helped you to win or lose a total or ATS pick....it happens all the time.
With very few exceptions, turnovers are the great equalizer, they will make or break you.

Sports betting is not about the sport itself, that's the biggest mistake most make, they follow the sport, keep up with the sport.
Where have you gained an advantage ?
By following the sport what you know is common knowledge to everyone including the book, the book knows it and knows you know so all that gets factored into the spread, you've gained nothing on anyone.
Because the book knows more than you the book also factors in other things you know nothing about and that makes some lines look far off to you .....so you bite......and the book just caught a whopper.
The book sets a line to try and gain 50% action on each team, so yes when you bet a game you are betting against those on the other side, the book just holds the money and makes sure the winners get paid.
The best way to increase your wins is to do your homework and know things others don't, and learn how to use info and stats better, If you listen to media outlets like ESPN all you'll know is what the masses know and that's not a good thing long term.Since the book needs to take the masses of players into account on the line or risk out of balance action.
