So if last night was the appetizer, is tonight the main course? Some things just remain the same. Vas and Igor stood on their heads most of the night, Vas more so than Igor. I thought the Rangers could have easily put up 4-5 goals had it not been for Vas. In the night cap, I watched the 1P only (late for old people on the east coast) and went to bed thinking I would not miss much. But was I wrong, it appears that the 3P was pretty fast paced hockey. Vegas put up 47 SOG
So onto tonight. Man, some of these lines are just stupid. Let me start with the Leafs (-260). Sure, Habs are bottom of the barrel, but do you realize that 1. it's a heated rivalry and 2. Both meetings last year in Montreal, the Habs won both of them. Opening night and our first -400+ of the year. Avs host the Hawks. I think the Hawks will compete with the Yotes to see who gets the first pick in the draft next year, but -410? Yep, they'll be someone that lays it in the forum and profess to be great. And finally, the Canes at -265. I think this will be closer than appears. BJ's have the offense but lack in defense. I am leaning the over in this game personally. We have the veteran, ok, old, Caps vs the MASH unit B's. I watched a couple of B's pre-season games and they weren't bad even with missing all their key plays. Do the Sea Monster's take a step up this year? That might be the dog of the night. Edmonton? Campbell? Wait and see, but they will be another offensive machine.
Enough of me. What do you want to talk about?

Tough slate of games tonight. Rangers look good. Vegas game was crazy 3rd period. Pulled it out with goal 25 seconds left in game. Today Thinking Boston/Montreal/Vancouver and Seattle. All digs which is probably asking for trouble. Thoughts on this?

Agreed..TOUGH slate of games. I remember that Lipps would wait a couple of weeks to start betting, to see how things are looking. Always thought that was wise but didn't have the will power to do that.
Looking at the over in Raleigh, Avs tt and Seattle ML right now.

Morning Doc, CAPS are the best option on the board tonight in my opinion. Both teams are missing pieces, but I trust the depth of DC over the B's missing their heart on O "rat fu**" and their best D man in Charlie. This series has been one sided favoring the Caps until the past year and CAPS who have been known to be dominant on home Ice were inconsistent to say the least last year and im sure Peter is preaching that tonight and no better time to do so with an opponent missing valuable pieces.
Injury update. Believe OSHIE & ORLOV will dress for the opener
Agree with your dog of the night and I would pull the trigger on HABS tonight with that type of return and value for reasons that you posted, but they are missing too many pieces as well due to injury.
Blue jackets are gonna make lots of $ for bettors in the underdog role this year imo and do I dare take a stab on the HAWKS tonight with that type of value?? We all know what's going on in the windy city in full rebuild mode, but its game # 1, brand new season, kaner & Jonesy are still there, they might catch the champs hungover, with their "fast new offensive style" Hawks, Kraken are my two dogs I can hear barking. I'd say jackets too, but with Rod still being the bench boss in NC he will have his team ready to rock.
You can never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

Do think the Caps have more with the B's injury. This will be a grind it out type game. I truly have no feel on anything and going off of the past, which is not good. Do I dare try the Hawks 1P tonight at +223? Hmmmm...Avs celebrating, banner raising, pumping the chest.

Absolutely I do. Don't forget, they added Kemper to finally have a dependable backstop this year as well. The addition of Strome in Brown are very nice as well, Strome 4 goals in preseason and believe Brown has 2-3. When Wilson get's back and the rest of the team stays healthy, this is a UNIT! Notice I left off Backstrom? Love him and appreciate everything he did in DC, so glad he got a cup with his buddy, but the best is behind him and the team played much better and faster without him last season. Connor McMichael, Protas & Snively are hungry talented forwards and each will do their best to crack the lineup each and every night and these kiddos will push the old dogs to keep pace

Just from experience I guess. Le Rink Rat and others always avoided any team that had a ceremony before the game, whether it was a banner raising or retiring a jersey. The thinking was everyone was celebrating, throwing off concentration and normal pre-game rituals. Banner raising team will have special family members around etc. Guess, I should clarify and state from MY personal history.

understood, good luck with Chi in the first, I can't pull the trigger on that one - I'm on Car tt ov 3.5 -140 and did a quarter unit PL RR with Car, Col and Oil for action. I have 3 TVs ready and NHL Center Ice pkg, all ineed is one of the red lights - didn't post it, maybe 2 plays in your thread yesterday, but swept yesterday 4-0 to get off on to a profitable start, +6.2 units. NS first 10min TB/NYR, NYR ml (2 unit), NYR pl and LA over.

did quite well yesterday. I made the right move by choosing the over instead of kings. As I stated in my thread, the over was the better play as we don't know what to expect from the Knights. Easy win by the Rangers, didnt had to sweat it out.
Tonight, I definitely like the over in jackets/canes game. Over all day. Leaning Canes. Will take Oilers PL with home opener and Nucks have some injured key players. When I first seen Leafs -265, I was like wtf lol. It's a rivalry between these 2. They have no business being that big of a fav. Avs -400 lol I remember the days when Hawks was a fav against Avs every game and I would take the Avs at plus money. Those days were money. Now it's long gone.
Bet the right way and never chase!

A lot of sage/savvy wisdom from Lipps over the years, as you say, including tapping the brakes on the bankroll early in the season.
Shoulda been happy with my hometown NYR, but had to put the house money on the Chromeheads. Not upset with them; they did what LAK do...kept grinding and coming back. But breaking even sucks when the first game is a winner (light juice on the nite cap, but still juice). Just watched Stone's game winner a few minutes ago, and it reminded me of what somebody said last night on Jim's In-Game Thread: "Is Quick drunk?" Watching the highlights it seemed like every time he had to get to his feet after a sprawl or split that caused a stoppage, or a goal, he had trouble getting up. Whatever...probably just age catching up with him (can't be tired first game), but I'll file that one away before considering a play on LAK w/Quick in goal (not that Petersen is gonna challenge for the #1 spot right now).
Kraken visit the Kings tomorrow night (after they open in Anaheim tonight). Watch, Quick will post a clean sheet tomorrow lmao.
Like the Caps tonight ML...got it at -142 yesterday; now bumped to -145.
Cheers Everybody, and BOL this season

Ullmark played in 2 pre-season games. A shutout of the Flyers (go figure) and then gave up 4 goals in a loss to the Devils, but once again pre-season. Also, Stralman unavailable tonight. B's blue line limited. Leaning Caps as well.

This south Texas guy knows little about hockey, but very much enjoys following the game, and reading all your insights. I often trail you all, based on the vast knowledge in this thread.
I am going to try something new this year. I played it pretty successfully in baseball this year, by taking pitchers and theirr over KO's on Underdog.
So for hockey, I am going to try taking the over on shots on Underdog.
So for the first night, here is what I am playing:
Boone Jenner - Higher than 2 shots, William Nylander - Higher than 2.5 shots, Taylor Hall - Higher than 2 shots, and Evgeny Kuznetsov - Higher than 2 shots.
.2 units to win 2 units. GL
