Pretty crappy with a 3 day break between game 1 and 3. Rogers and NBC is dictating that for sure. You pay the billions of dollars you are owned by them. But at least there should be more eyes on the game on Saturday. Of course I want games back to back, but don't forget you have to work around the NBA finals also.
The NBA just dominates the NHL for viewership in the finals. To the tune of 15.5 million viewers compared to the NHL's 5 million the last 5 years. So you do have to work around somewhat.
BTW here is the NBA finals schedule.

I've heard several sports talk people discuss the numbers in regards to the NHL playoffs....in my opinion...of course the numbers are going to be miniscule. The NHL playoffs have almost exclusively been on premium cable networks. NBS Sports is only available on the 4th + high packages on Directv.
Seems like they set themselves up for minimal viewing.

Well they went for the bigger cash with NBC. I imagine that might change after the contract is over. ESPN did show interest but not enough cash. The board of Governors should really examine that next time. With the extra exposure ESPN would give them it would be more than worth it. Also you know the NHL would get a more coverage and highlights if they had the contract.

i was just thinking that the other day. im surprised espn was out bid to begin with. i mean this time of the year they are showing arena football and girls college softball.
i d imagine the contract has to be for the entire season though and that would mean having to cut out some college basketball and college football games during the week. they ll never part with college football on saturdays nor should they thats their cash cow. so they re stuck really. espn coverage for the playoffs would be great. maybe they could find a couple nights to stick hockey on during the season. its not like they are on nbcsports that much anyway during the reg season. isnt it only like a couple nights a week?
as scotch said getting stuck on nbcsports sucks. so many people dont even get it.

ESPN has so many channels now it wouldn't be a problem to move things around. They lowballed because the NHL needed them more than they need the NHL. They used to show a good number on the weeknights and that was with just a couple of channels. The nice thing is that ABC would be involved again, so they would still have a national stage.

oh thats right i wasnt even thinking about abc. ya the nhl def has to get over there.
NO WAY ABC/ESPN would do a better job than NBC/NBC Sports. look what happened to NHL coverage when ESPN still had the league and THEN picked up the NBA years back. they CUT nightly NHL games on ESPN2 to a minimum. Ya ESPN has a lot of channels BUT when they do the NCAA Hockey tourney every year they do NOT have every 1st round game LIVE. they would rather have some damn poker game on

ok first of all who cares about college hockey coverage nobody is watching it just like nobodys watching girls softball right now. poker probably has higher ratings then college hockey.
second how was this worse then now? this sounds pretty dam good to me and this was 11 years ago. a lot has changed since then
When ESPN started broadcasting NBA games on Wednesday and Friday nights in 2002, the weekly hockey broadcasts were moved to Thursday and the broadcasts renamed to Thursday Night Hockey. Beginning in 1993–94, up to five games per week were also shown on ESPN2 (dubbed "Fire on Ice").
During the Stanley Cup playoffs, ESPN and ESPN2 provided almost nightly coverage, often carrying games on both channels simultaneously. Games in the first two rounds were non-exclusive, while telecasts in the Conference Finals and Finals were exclusive (except in 1993 and 1994).

OK just because YOU don't care for it does NOT mean there aren't a LOT of other fans esp for the NCAA tournament. AND you MISSED the POINT that ESPN would rather show some dog crap poker game or some other off the wall "sport" than hockey. btw, you DO know you CAN bet on the NCAA Hockey tourney, don't you?
and yourGames in the first two rounds were non-exclusive ment that for SOME games you had to either have local coverage or NO game 1st round. i remember that happening with Penguins games. the NBC people show ALL EVERY ROUND
