i was thinking a gm maybe two. it wasnt that bad a hit. seen a lot worse go unpunished, cooke on savard comes to mind, the burrows bite, then again they were bruins on the rec end. i guess marchand should have stood up straight and eaten salos stick.

I agree that Marchand should be suspended, but this video made me laugh.  I like that Shanahan is being vocal about why players are getting suspended but this video looks like America's Most Wanted and seems as though Marchand is a criminal.  They should just release quotes from Shanahan instead of these stupid videos that are kind of mocking the suspended player.

yeh the videos r odd for sure. surely the nhl could offer these explanations to players only. the need cops theme song....bad boys bad boys....

ya i was thinking 3 games, but I think Shanny wants to send Marchand a message, otherwise he will continue to that kind of stuff. Love having him on the Bruins, but sometimes question his decisions

League punishes repeat offenders harshly. He was suspended 2 or 3 games last year so I assume that is why they game him 5 this time around. Makes sense to continue to increase the numbers of games.

i knew he would get something, repeat offender, bruins rep. it just seems the b's always get the raw end. look a rome last yr 4 fN gms for taking out bruins hottest scorer in playoffs and marchand gets five for that?

by the way what beef does van have with horton, saturdays gm was the first time they play against him since they knocked him out and they send goon out to fight him in the first 5 mins?

2 games max i think. hit was dirty, but i've seen worse. if salo doesn't get hurt, is it still 5 games? i doubt it.

i think it is more likely salos recurring back problem, not sure he is concussed. van knows that "concussion" is the buzz word this yr. the way he skated off looked like a back injury.

One thing I'm wondering, though unrelated to the Marchand suspension, is whether a Lucic suspension might have been warranted??

Does anyone remember Todd Bertuzzi leaving the bench in I think 2002 and getting an automatic 10 game suspension for leaving the bench to join a brawl?

pjm lucic wasnt on the bench, the refs f'd up league rescinded gm misconduct. there was line change and they were confused.

all this rhetoric coming out of van regarding payback and hes gonna get it is starting to smell like bertuzzi/moore all over again. didnt those idiots learn anything from that incident. btw i cant recall but i think bertuzzi got two gms for that cowardly attack.

Five games wasn't enough for me.  I would have given him at least ten.  What he did was a box move and cheap as hell!!  What a coward!!

the guy has serious hockey skills, he plays on the edge. look when you play vancouver fair goes out the window, just ask seabrook, bergeron, hornton and thats just last yrs playoffs. nobody seems to have an issue with burrows sticking his blade in thorntons throat, five canucks jumping one bruin, thats a hockey play? havent heard a peep, yet luc gets the boot? meese fights horton tells thornton they r going to "go" then when thornton drops gloves meese shit himself and took off?

clipping -  the rules specifically states in the two sentences both state at the end :"on or below the knees::".

It's about time they nailed that little runt.  It was the altercation before the hit that drew attention to him.  If not for that, he probably gets away for it because they would have said he was "defending" himself against a bigger man .  Bravo Shanahan!

it's ok man I'm a big Bruins guy that lives in Vancouver and I get shit everyday from all my friends about any borderline Bruins play.  I honestly don't care so long as we keep gettin the rings

Yeah Marchand bad..he's been a gutless, chicken shit punk ever since he came into the league. What does all that other stuff have to do with anything? You want 5 guys on the Canucks suspended because they jumped on Thornton? Yeah I agree with you I'd say that's weak ass too...and the Canucks have certainly had their share of moments; but that isn't the issue. Unfortunately that's always the Bruins MO whenever someone on their team does something..blame the victim or try and deflect attention onto other shit. I didn't read anyone in here defending 5 Canucks jumping Thornton or anything like that...but that isn't the issue. Marchand's hit  is..and releasing comical statements trying to convince anyone who is not a Bruins fan that he was trying to defend himself, or that it was a clean hip check, or any other laughable bullshit coming out of Boston isn't gonna change anyone's opinion who doesn't drink their kool aid. Taking out a guy the way Marchand did is one of the pussiest things anyone can do on the ice...not to mention the fact he's already been suspended for an elbow to the head and a slew foot. He's a 3 time offender now and IMO deserved everyone of those 5 games. I'm just waiting for the day hopefully when someone takes care of him the way Domi took care of Samuelsson and knock his teeth out.

baker you r correct bruins look good for another cup run, van poised for another reg season run. its odd how van fans never bring up the play of burrows, i mean biting.."come on man" in one playoff yr they sideline two opposing plyrs bit another yet still had the gall to point fingers at everyone else.

Not being picky but Bertuzzi received the rest of the season and playoffs for that year and I believe had to be reinstated for the next year to play again.....Marchand gutless and deserved the 5 games....tired of guys that can't take a hit or give clean hits as well...the sport is going to shits as guys have no respect for each other...btw can't stand Burrows, this is the type of player teams want in the league.....speaks volume how this game really is going to shit.....
