Colorado/Toronto analysis and picks...

Question

The wrong team is favored here. Colorado has infinitely more talent than Toronto. Leafs always shit the bed at home on Tuesday nights. This is just what the doctor ordered to cure the Avs scoring woes. They played yesterday but it was an afternoon game and had all day to travel and settle in their hotels in Toronto.

Just to lay it out for ya, here is a little list of Colorado's talent compared to Toronto's;

Daniel Briere

These guys are all 25 goal scorers or better.

A couple more thoughts on tonight&#x27;s games...Islanders seem like they might be finally turning the corner. A live dog tonight.Anaheim is WAY more talented than Philly. They are doing everything right and Philly is doing everything wrong. 4th game of a road trip might mean something in March but the season just started and these guys are hardly worn down. You&#x27;d have to be insane to bet Philly here.SJ/Wash has under written all over it. Sharks yet to concede and Washington home games have been low scoring in the past couple years. I expect a tight one.I see a lot of people thinking the Kings are a lock at home to the oilers tonight. Oilers play like trash at home but much better on the road. Kings overvalued cause they are reigning champs but not exactly off to a blazing start. I wouldn&#x27;t be surprised to see the oilers hang in there and maybe even win. &#x2B;1.5 is probably a good bet.

Of course they aren&#x27;t. I live in Canada too so i&#x27;ve ate, slept and breathed hockey my whole life. Have been betting it for 15 years. Of course anything can happen on any given night, but you don&#x27;t take a shitty cold team against a talented hot team at even odds just cause you think they are "due" or they "need a win".The Avs/Leafs game... i have seen this movie so many times before. Leafs will get drubbed here.

Last I checked James Van Riemsdyk had 30 goals for the Leafs last season. Please correct me if I am wrong though. And when analyzing the Avalanche line up, by adding Dan Briere to that list as a "25 goal scorer and a top gun" is a little outdated. Briere has not scored 30 goals in almost 5 years. He is well past his prime. In fact, he scored 13 goals in 69 games last year. He scored a lowly 6 goals during the lockout season and the season before that he scored 16 in 70.

Alex Tanguay? He has not scored 25 goals since 2005

This is such a biased "analysis" it is almost laughable. Will the Avs win? Maybe. But to compare talent and "top guns" as your way of analysis is probably not the best approach. If we based every game on talent, wouldn't the best team always win? (ie: Rangers losing to the Leafs Sunday 6-1). It's not always that easy!

Clarkson is long removed from his pinnacle too and never regained his stride since coming to Toronto so let's take out Clarkson, Tanguay and Briere, even though Briere was an elite player and scored the game winner yesterday. His leadership is worth lots.

Another thing i forgot to mention... Colorado, being a western team, rarely gets to play in Toronto and are chalked full of Canadian players. Many of them will have lots of family in the stands tonight and will be out to put on a show. That's one thing that always sucks for the leafs being in the Mecca of hockey. Teams always get up to play in Toronto.

I don't base everything on talent. Read my writeups for yesterdays games. Wouldn't i have picked Boston and Ottawa? I'm not new at this. In fact, I like the Oilers to give the Kings a run for their money tonight.

Talent doesn't always decide games, but SOMETIMES it does. You think the Panthers will win many games this season just based on luck? they suck cause they have no good players. Its not a bunch of hocus pocus.

Tanguay despite his injury woes has still managed to score roughly a goal every 4 games for the last 4 years which would average out to 25 if he played a full season. He averages roughly 0.65 points per game except for 1 season where he played in Tampa.

the only reason Lupul and Van Reimsdik have had decent seasons is cause the Leafs have no other good players so these guys get lots of top line and power play time. They are nothing special. Their only truly talented player is Kessel. Thats it.

I would never bet Philly, but with Gibson in the net, I&#x27;m thinking I might pass on this one as he got torched in his first start giving up 6 goals, and he lacks experience. &#xD;&#xA;What are your thoughts on it 9wings?

Guys... obviously i, and everyone else knows that the better team doesn't always win, but you don't just throw all that out the window and base your picks off scheduling and hopium alone.

I have mentioned a lot of factors that probably do matter and I get blasted. Meanwhile 90% of these guys post picks only, that they may have had their dog choose or flipped a coin, and you guys are in there giving high fives.

Nobody here even wants info, they just want picks and don't want to know how the person came up with them. What's the point?

Anaheim is steamrolling right now and i wouldn&#x27;t get in front of it cause of a backup who probably would like another chance to prove himself NHL worthy.

My issue with your post was how you listed Briere and Tanguay as 25 goal scorers and "top guns".  When honestly, they are well past their prime and you cannot get stats within the past five years that support that statement.  And, how you failed to leave JVR off the list of 25 goal scorers and supported this by saying it is only because he is playing the PP and on the leafs top line.  Keep in mind, he was also an olympian.  IMHO your post was based on finding reasons to not take the leafs and forcing yourself to find angles to take the Avs.  At the end of the day, this game is a straight up coin flip where both teams are still trying to find an identity.  Like you said, it&#x27;s an out of conference match up and either team has really seen each other in recent years. It&#x27;s also hard for me to support the Avs based on the fact they have scored two goals in three games and are playing back to back on the road in which they are 0-10 on the PP this season (vs leafs 5-12).  My thoughts, and these are just my thoughts, would be Leafs or no play.  Too hard to back the Avs tonight.  BOL Oh, and I DO agree that players tend to get up for games in Toronto!

Tanguay is still scoring at the same rate when you account for his injury woes. And despite being over the hill, for one game, I take Briere over any leaf except for Kessel. Aside from these guys, you can see that Colorado has at MINIMUM double the amount of elite talent. But all that aside, the leafs always lose their Tuesday night game to non division foes. For the past at least 5 years, they are always a small fav on tuesdays and always get pumped. Im not talking about losing 4-3. They always get steamrolled in this situation. Saturdays they actually play well at home but they always are hungover for Tuesday games. Colorado played twice against Minny who is a trap defense team and one vs the Bruins who may be one of the leagues best defensive and all around good teams. The flood gates open tonight. No coin flip in my eyes.

Also as for pedigree. Leafs have proven in the last 10 years they know nothing but losing. Colorado finished on top of their division last year and second in the west with 112 pts. I think we can all agree that the west is a lot more competitive as well. It&#x27;s a very clear winner for me and I&#x27;m just trying to share my experience and past successes betting against leafs at home on Tuesdays. Even Florida and Atlanta used to come to toronto and kill them on Tuesdays.

I wish i could get stats that go back further than this but...Avalanche are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Toronto.Maple Leafs are 1-5 in their last 6 Tuesday games.

You&#x27;re really not watching much Hockey or have a mind for the game if you think Lupul and JVR are just scoring because the Leafs have no one else and just get top 6 minutes. Kadri is another guy who is primed to hit around 25 goals this year.These guys are highly skilled, excellent offensive players.
