Zero doubt he did it on purpose, I mean pretty hard to explain away that video evidence in my opinion and apparently the opinion of the NHL and he gave a lame excuse which does not line up with the actions in the video. Only time I recall this grey area kind of thing where the player says it was an accident was when Tom Lysiak tripped a referee after a faceoff back in the late 70's, he too was suspended.

That suspension will be dropped to a couple games and a fine. Just wont be dealt with till after the all star break

He should be suspended for the rest of the year.  A slap on the wrist and the league will be working with AHL refs for the rest of the year.

The guy has no prior incidents in over 750 NHL games...I know it looks really bad but it just doesn't make sense that he would go off the rails like that and completely drill the linesman. I'm sure he's received worse hits or cheap shots on himself and just gone to the bench without trouble.

If you look closely he does take a little stutter step to the right just before contact like he's trying to avoid it...maybe he actually didn't see him.

He&#x27;ll get the max 20 games at the minimum. Think that will be it because of players agreement. For those that don&#x27;t think it was intentional...BS. That was clear and obvious. For those that want to say that it was because he might have been concussed and "out of it"....BS. The guy returned to the game. With concussions out in the open right now, I guarantee you he was examined by athletic training staff before returning (WHICH HE DID). And he had enough cognitive awareness to go to the linesman and apologize. And I agree with Lipps...if something is not done, refs will revolt.

When watching it several times, I tried to give the guy the benefit of the doubt for reasons that you mentioned.  You are right though.  It doesn&#x27;t make senseHowever, he has his head up as he skates in the direction of his bench and the linesman.  A hockey player&#x27;s awareness is arguably the sharpest of any athlete in the major North American sports.  If you lack awareness, there&#x27;s a good chance that you won&#x27;t last an entire season without getting injured in this game.  Short of him having his eyes closed or something that impaired his vision as he&#x27;s skating back to his bench, I don&#x27;t see how this is not intentional.

How in the hell can anyone watch that and say it wasn&#x27;t intentional there.  He held up his stick and crosschecked him.  You don&#x27;t hold your stick up like that going to the bench  You don&#x27;t ever hold your stick like that at all, unless you are going to crosscheck someone.  The piece of s,hit should sit for the rest of the year.

Listen bleeding hearts, there&#x27;s more to this than we know.  Wideman is not a maniac.  The donut is on the take and got what he deserved.  I would&#x27;ve handled it differently, but violence would still be involved except it wouldn&#x27;t be in the spotlight.
