I’m just butthurt about that empty net goal tbh. I took the +1.5 just for some nightly entertainment. Rookie mistake.

I want to say that seems like it could be a very demoralizing loss for the Blues, almost unrecoverable to comeback from psychologically when you had full control of a game 1 of the series where you could have set the tone and stolen home ice advantage away.

We saw it in the Carolina series...the Canes had the lead in Boston in game 1 and then got steamrolled in the 3rd, followed up by getting run out of the rest of the series.  It's one thing when it happens to a very green Carolina team but I would hope the Blues would be able to put up more of a fight.  Then again, I didn't think they would fold like a cheap suit mid-game the way they did last night...

On the flip side, we also just saw the Raptors blow a game 1 they had full control of on the road that could have set the tone for the series.  They followed up by getting blown out in game 2 leading most to believe they were psychologically done and series was over, then reeled off 4 straight wins to reach the finals.

Moral of the story...who the F knows lol.

I have a different take .....

I think Boston was rusty in the first period, due to the layoff. Once they got their feet going, they looked to be a much better, complete team.  Does St Louis have enough offense? Maybe they win a game when they go back home but I seen what look to be a mismatch in game 1 and I think Boston wins in 5.

Again its only one game and adjustments will need to be made but there isn't anything I saw in Game 1 after the 19 min mark of the second period that sways me to bet against Boston @ home in game 2.

That game last night could have easily been 6-1 or 7-1 if a couple bounces went the Bruins way in the first period .. the Blues' will is going to be put to the test because as much as i hate the Bruins they fu-king grind you down better than any team i've seen in some time .. if the Bruins go up 2-0 Wednesday (i think they will) it's probably over .. 

 

Over reaction? Maybe. Maybe not.

Blues have done this too many times in the playoffs...especially last series vs the Sharks. They get a 2 goal lead and then stop attacking and hope Binnington and their defense saves them.

I was looking at the stats from last series and the Sharks and Blues were trading randomly dominating periods in the game. E.g. Sharks would dominate the 1st, Blues dominate the 2nd and Sharks dominate the 3rd... no real trend to it. 

I'm not too worried this will turn into a Boston series domination. Blues are pretty good at bouncing back. They haven't been down by 2 in any series yet but have been down 1 plenty of times.

i think it s as easy as just looking at the matchup. thats what i did before the series and last night pretty much went how i think the series will. st louis doesnt have fire power. they play like its the 70's and they ve done it damn well to this point however  this is not going to give the bruins any sort of problems imo. teams that push the lines like the toronto's, tampa bay etc cause problems for the bruins. their defense can be had with skilled guys pushing it. dumping it in...zzzzzzzzz... no way. bruins are way to good to be beaten 4 times with that style unless the goalie literally stands on his head 4 nights. ill say it goes 5. thats what i thought before it started.

And while you're at it, explain what an "illegal hit to the head" is as well.  I found fiction in the WWE rulebook  so was hoping someone really knew what it was

The biggest overreaction is that everyone and their mother seems to think the Blues can’t score and suck and it’s barely gonna make it five games unless the MIGHTY BRUINS ALLOW the Blues to win more than one game

Blues were too busy pounding Karlsson (and anything else that moved) in game 1 v the Sharks... and it paid off later in the series.  No such strategy possible with the B's.

According to the rule book. But I mean, I know it gets rewritten on the ice according to which team needs it. So I get why you would think it wasn’t a penalty

Distance traveled I believe refers to skating distance i.e. we were always taught more than 3 consecutive strides would be considered a charge...once you are gliding you are good.

I just went to read the way the NHL rule reads and of course it mentions nothing about specific distance or number of consecutive strides so it is waaaay to vague.

In any event...it's over and of course it was a super dirty...cheap rulebreaking...headhunting and morally corrupt hit because it was done by a Boston Bruins player.

I think it's dumb to have a "checking too hard" rule. I can see giving a penalty if there was intent to injure if it was a high hit or whatever, but these guys signed up for an extremely physical game. Getting hit hard is part of it.
