Good article here regarding hockey dying specifically in vancouver and montreal. Sport interest among teenagers period in canada has been dropping in recent years but hockey most alarmingly.

I'd say a lot more people are watching the Blue Jays this time of year. Its a combination of things, lack of Canadian teams, the playoff matchups aren't huge rivals like Habs/Bruins, Sportsnet, streaming from cable cutters etc..
No doubt ratings are down with the Canadian teams being done and out months ago. But there was a lot of excitement from the Blue Jays last year that has carried over even though the Jays haven't looked great. I know a lot of people that stopped watching hockey once baseball started. Plus, the Jays play almost every night and now the Raptors are creating some excitement too. Those are Canada's teams this time of year.

Wanted to add the NHL did themselves no favours with their changes. These would have been the eastern conference matchups had the stupid seeding changes not been made. Caps/Wings, Datsyuk vs Ovie for his swan song, great story imo. Flyers/Pens...no words needed for battel of Pennsylvania lol....Tampa/Florida....battle of Florida....New York vs New York again no words needed....imagine the animosity in those series'? That is what they would have been if not for the changes.....Some epic series' in there!

look man, I understand your frustration but let me tell you, it's not hopeless..23 years ago here in LA people didn't know what icing was and 4 years ago when the Kings were on their first run, people in the finals outside Staples thought there were 4 quarters in a game!
These people were immigrants, first generation Americans from Mexico, Hispanic countries, Asia, whatever...they got interested, they learned, etc And I can't tell you how many Lakers fans are from those areas...we even sold Viva Los Lakers merchandise and the team wears those jerseys
So wake up and start selling the game to these people, there's more coming-they like soccer, they'll get it, But more importantly,
your teams are poorly run for the most part, the Canadians relied too much on Price and Subban, the Leafs finally might be realizing like the Cubs build it from the ground up and be patient
The Canucks had a great chance but kept choker/soft players like the Sedins and Luongo-the Mid west teams all have young talent...
Look, we tried to fight the illegals here and the 1st generation legals rallied in downtown LA and Proposition 187 died...I gave in cause I only was wasting anger...work with the situation, bro

Very nice. It's still difficult for people to accept a sport which they can not play at home. Most people can't skate, much less play hockey. Everybody can shoot a basketball, throw/catch a football/baseball or kick a soccer ball in their back yard. Nobody that I know has a year round skating rink where the pool used to be.

really? So why are people in downtown LA of hispanic descent buying Kings gear? The game looks like soccer on ice, you don't need to play it to enjoy watching it...but what would you know since the Cup hasn't seen Miami ever...
