Definitely some offensive firepower coming your way. How quickly can he build camarderie...Hall can be a quiet addition

Looking deeper...don't know if I like it but only time will tell. Necas leads team in points and used to Rod's system, had another year on contract. You are correct that Mikko is a rental. Should be able to gel with Aho quickly though.

not many big trades like this mid-season, but the Avs were in a big bind and probably realized that they would not be able to meet Rantanen's demands with his deal up at the end of the year, along with dealing with a potential return of Landeskog and his cap hit; At least they get some returns doing it now and Carolina gets some firepower...

The Canes owner Tom Dundon is one of the cheapest in the business. Rantanen will obviously want huge bucks going forward so it will be interesting to see if he is just a very pricy rent a player or if they can actually sign him long term?

Wow dumb trade for Carolina....Rantanen not a ton better than necas and necas was signed for cheap next year
Drury good depth
Rantanen stats are propped by playing with Mack... he goes to another good situation though

No way they sign him long term - he will go to one of the teams in the big markets like NY in FA. Not a head scratcher on Necas, as I think new GM is not high on him, Marty wanted out this past summer b4 resigning, and Tulsky figures he won't want to pay him after next season what he may be worth, and Carolina is trying to win now.
They do get some significant size increase in Mikko and Hall, and Hall is excellent Veteran depth with postseason XP, so not opposed to losing Drury for something they need to win in May/June. Just a lot to pay for a rental. But it does make them a serious contender for the Cup instead of a maybe to get into Conf Finals.

@dubz4dummyz
disagree - Mikko is a whole other level above Marty. Averages almost 40 a season vs Marty who is around 20 - proven goal scorer which Canes need more of. Much bigger and has more toughness to him, plus Cup XP.
Long term, yeah its not great for the Canes, but short term this is huge. Daily Face Off has a pretty good perspective on the trade:

The real head scratcher is Chicago - they trade Hall and a bag of cash ($4.6M) for Canes 3rd Rounder next year... Huh???

The ONE thing that I do like and wished more teams would do this...they made this trade waaaay ahead of trade deadline, thus giving the team time to gel and get the kinks out of the system. How many times do we see a traded player go to a team and has like 4 weeks to make a difference. That is a plus imo.

@dyamarik
Mikko averages 40 cause of MacKinnon imo...take mack away and those numbers drop
Necas numbers will now go up if he plays with mack
I have similar views on draisaitl/Hyman playing with McDavid
I guess if Carolina was just "renting" necas till he walked after next year than it's a 1 year rental swapped for a 2 year rental
Chicago must just be doing hall a solid...get him to a contender and get a 3 back...guessing unloading hall saved them around what they took on from the ranty contract

Really think the Canes won this deal , Rantanen is on a different level than Necas IMO and adding Hall just adds depth and experience.
The West finalist is going to be tough to call but I think your Canes just leaped to the top of the pack.

@dubz4dummyz
fair points and hard to argue. Mac was averaging about 50 pts per year prior to Rantanen and that total doubled in 2017-18 when they were paired up, so I think there is a cross pollination going on. And Mikko has a cup and scores goals in the playoffs. Marty has only 11 G in 59 games Rant has 34 in 81.
We'll find out if Avs put Necas with Mac. and yeah its basically as you state - a 1 season rental vs 2.
@GASportsDoc
yeah, I agree. And both he and Aho are Finnish, so they'll get the extra gel time in the 4N series.
@rustie
Cats are still the team to beat IMO cuz they have a roster of playoff ca;iber and big body players. Canes still have some softies and they are still under sized, but this got them a lot bigger and tougher. Like their chances.

thanks for the link-yeah funny Sportsnet.ca had an article about Colorado's cap bind and Rantanen's pending UFA on Friday morning-agree Chicago seems like a middleman in this deal who really didn't benefit!

I thought I had heard where Hall said he liked playing in Chicago, and Lord knows they need all the help they can get. It makes zero sense, unless there is collusion type bullshit going on behind the scenes we don't know about. Its almost like they wanted to help the other two teams. Borderline fishy IMO, but if it helps my team, so be it.
