Interesting read. Whether you believe shady shit happens or not.  I can tell you this 9 times out of 10 it won't benefit the huge favorite that has 70% or more of the action.

 

The Steelers Chargers game a few years ago. Troy's pick ran back for a TD. Clear INT. 4th down. Didn't have any effect on the outcome Steelers still would of won either way. Just effected how many they won by. (whether they cover or don't) Why should the NFL care how many the Steelers win by ?  We  both know the outcome with all the money on Pitt.  

Oh I had money on that.  I was when it was ran back for a TD and  when it was over ruled and when later on the NFL said it made a mistake and it should of been a TD.

Most of us have been there - we thought we had it pegged, we got beat, but after that we KNOW we have it figured out...

...and then in our second month of sports betting, we realize that we are full of shit and start capping game by game and not worrying about conspiracies.

Funny how we are both arguing that these hockey games are NOT fixed and we both had money on that bullshit NFL call.  That was one of my largest bets of that year.  If anyone should be pessimistic it's us. 

 

I don't bet on conspiracy theories. Just research, facts, and experience. I can tell you when I see huge ML drops on HUGE favorites automatic play on the other side for me.

 

Cleveland for an example the other night. If you are the books and you have people dumb enough to lay 425 to win 100. Why lower the tax to 365 to win a 100 when the spread is still 7.5?

Because you need to reel in more suckers and Cleveland ML bets to cover that huge bet laid down on Boston ML.

I wonder what kind of fuss that would have caused if the league awarded the TD after the teams had left the field... It was the last play, correct...? I know the books would have said NO GO if they changed it the next day... but what if during the post game it was announced that the play stands as a TD...?

It's kind of like the reverse line movement drinkers.  Every since I have been on this board, almost 10 years now I have asked them to post the plays before the games start and not once has someone been able to show much profit or even much above .500

Usually they start and then when it tails off they stop posting.

Lippsman as far as betting hockey is concerned you can appreciate this. Big ML drops in hockey are a lot more significant since not as many people bet hockey like NFL, MLB, NBA.

It doesn't take a great deal of money to move a puck line.

Wow you guys really need to get off this conspiracy crap. Yeah maybe 50 years ago you would have a point. But today the athletes are making Millions. Would you risk Millions for a few thousand or to make some mafia boss $200,000 on a game. Get real man. I will concede LeBron's isn't into it but it doesn't have anything  to with the game being fix. It's just that Cleveland is overrated. Plain and simple.

yeah sports is rigged espeically during playoff time... public love the teams with top record...but not all team with top record win nowadays...

This topic is friggin non sense.  Sure, it has happened, but if anyone thinks that the sports are rigged......on even a semi regular basis.......and then thinks he's figured out how to win on the rigging.......and still continues to bet is someone I want to take bets from!!!! 

C'mon, wake up......pro sports is full of top level talent and has rigorous schedules and flights criss crossing the country every other day.........wake up people.......non of you ever had a bad day at work???   Besides, ML dogs are the way you make money in watering, not taking favs........anyone knows that a few favs mixed with the right dogs is the way to be consistant with straight bets. 

Focus on the games, matchups, travel, home-away records and recent trends of teams and you have a better chance of winning money.  If you want to win consistent money?????  Take what you would have gambled away and put it it the bank, 401k or buy into a start up business.......your odds of being a winner in the long run are 10's of times better!!!!!!   Keep it to fun and entertainment..........then you won't lose you mind and start screaming about conspiracies that involve coaches, players, refs, Vegas, owners, schedulers and even the public fan/wager........

Ahh agronz you gave the league to much credit with your Boston pick, part of the "rig" is to get that gate and revenue from a game 7 in Boston.  cmon now.  I am playing with you since I had Montreal parlayed with Boston last nite too, we misses that one. 

I love how Montreal burns money every year and now as an 8th seed they are world beaters and have Canada finally in a cup contending spot.

 

In no way do I think a LEAGUE fixes games, however...

I totally believe that thier may be some hanky panky going on with basketball games. It has already happened and been exposed... the only thing we don't know is how deep it just might be.

For one thing... yes athletes DO make huge salaries but I could easily see a few basketball players who are very close to each other telling thier family members to bet large on a game and then procede to provide a winning wager one way or the other depending on the outcome they need. Why give them thier money when they can provide them with free money from somewhere else???

Basketball is the one sport that could easily be rigged WITHOUT causing much suspicision unless you know that it was a big favorite that lost. The non-wagering fans would never notice or suspect anything. A missed shot here, no defense there and anything could be swayed.

Of all the sports, basketball has had the most dirt uncovered... NCAA and NBA.

So if anything further was gonna be uncovered... that's where I'd start looking... and Tennis also.

Great points Skubishack; so many of the ppl on Covers don't now what they're talking about. It's well documented that shaving points off a spread and even playing to an O/U takes place in the leagues (NCAA and NBA).

Most coaches make $$millions along with the players but there are other motivating factors and some refs definitely are guilty in fixing games. Basketball is the easiest sport to do this undetected but if you are a full time sports investor you watch games much differently than the general public AND the analysts in the media.

Take the good with the bad and if you're lucky, you'll be on the winning side of some of those situations. It's impossible to win every wager anyway.

Take game 6 CLE at BOS tonight... is there any substantial reason to back the Cavs? The league and media, however, want this series to go to game 7. The Celts only laying one point just doesn't make sense and the only reason BOS wouldn't win tonight is if they give it to CLE. Even if the refs call the game for CLE (and they will), they still can't compete with Boston at this point if Boston plays an honest game.

A few years back, when the Warriors made the playoffs that year, they were still fighting for that spot in a regular season game vs a poor Sac team(I think it was Sac)... anyway, B.Davis had been back for the last few games after missing time with an injury. He was completely healed and the Warriors were on a roll since his return... They NEEDED this game and were favs by a few points on the road. B.Davis went through warm ups and all looked good, he was hitting everything in warmups...

Then I placed my 1G wager on em just knowing they were gonna win big.

Just before the game, the teams came out and B.Davis was in street clothes. The Warriors announcers had no idea what happened... shortly after tip off, then informed the viewers that NOTHING was wrong with B.Davis. They said the Warriors head coach simply scratched him with the only explanation being "Coaches Decision".

Nothing was made of this by the press after that announcement even after the Warriors proceded to get blown outta the building with B.Davis on the bench in street clothes despite being 100% healthy in a playoff race.

I have not bet on the NBA since then in anything but longshot small risk - high reward parlays.

Someone made a fortune that night and I'm sure Nelly knows who.

I know that many of you don't watch soccer, but try telling the Irish that their world cup qualifying game VS France wasn't rigged.  There was a double offside and a handball goal by the French that the whole world saw, but somehow still counted.  Some (not all) sport matches are "pre-determined".  This is only logical. 

Most games are NOT RIGGED. We just remember the ones that are.  There are too many people that need to be on a fix to make it work.  There are too many people that need to keep secrets. Sure some slips through the cracks like point shaving scandals in college bb, but college kids are broke and easier to influence them.

Sure refs are known to blow calls on purpose, but that's the exception and not the norm.  Pros in all sports makes millions of dollars, they have no incentive to "cheat." Its not worth their career. While some of you are gonna point out specific instances where a fix was in, no one points how many times a fix was not in.  I guarantee you that 99% or more of all games in pro and college sports are not rigged.

Why? look at steroids and baseball. I know sports organizations don't want Senate hearings as to whether or not sports are rigged.  People are less likely to bet if it is known for sure that say 25% of games are rigged.  Vegas doesn't want that pay cut and neither do the sports organizations.

The books don't need to fix games.  They always win anyways. They have juice in their favor in every game, parlays and teasers to hang yourself, and know most gamblers use poor judgement, tilt, and bet with money they can't afford to lose. 

Logically speaking, if the books are laying traps, they'll try to trap the sharps. They don't need to trap the square as they know squares lose eventually.

Hell, the books are the ones that blow the whistle on most of the point shaving thierselves.

the under call i made was me reading the lines the bookies gave it to us at 5 even . the stupid player would go over 3rd string goalie why not over was the call . not it was a lock under

my mere thinking of boston winning was a personal pick , i just thought they would have won , personally the ticket i had was mopntreal and the under in boston - adding boston was my greed but its gambling and i did , if i won with boston or philly the pay out would have been both about 13 to 1 or 17 to 1 should have hedged
