I've always used three different models and lol to find a goal differential on 2/3. One mode is pretty much gone to crap, but I still use it, as very rarely might point out something a bit askew.
But as to your thoughts, this year I am definitely weighing last 5. I was actually doing some quick math by spitting out average total goals over last 5 for both, then avg combined, then, avg gaa for both suspected starters and combined as well. But lately just lazy and glancing last 5 for both teams and checking starters gaa and sv%. But ya, so unpredictable this year that recency bias a must to look at.
