ouch! yes I remember you talking about the Nystrom goal.but in fact you are correct it was the duane sutter goal, thought it was the third and tying goal. but what the hell do I know.and it was 9 feet! hope you know I am not starting trouble(respect you a lot!) just picking your brain. didn't mean to mess up your thread brother danger!
Ofcourse not potvin, always just fun and convo my man. Here is a link to TSN's top 10 controversial playoff goals, the Islander one is number 2 with brett hulls skate in the crease being ignored being number 1. They're all troubling but the real sketchy ones are the ones that clearly showed on video the goal crossing entirely over the goal line and them being actually looked at on video and still for whatever reason unexplainable reason not being allowed by the powers that be at NHL headquarters. Even the biggest little the world is wonderful rainbow and butterflies people can't explain those ones away, because no one can. How do they look and see a puck cross the line but still rule no goal? LOLOL. If that is not enough for some people to suggest everything is not always what it seems, I have no idea what to say to them.
The lion and the tiger may be more powerful, but the wolf doesn't perform in the circus.

So with that being said then before an argument can even be presented to DB's comments then we must first be given a viable reason as to why that call back in January was "blown". The terms "missed" and/or "blown" calls are often find ludicrous by myself and I am sure others, as there are countless cases of a referee or in fact 2 referees looking directly at a play and astonishingly either ignoring something or making the complete opposite call of what is in fact very easy and obvious to every other human being it is being played out of in front of. Missed and blown are often complete bullsh!t because when it is 100% obvious as is the case of the one you yourself pointed out (not a leg to stand on) then it is the referee and sometimes powers beyond the referee CHOOSING to ignore the obvious or CHOOSING to make a completely wrong call for whatever reason. We have to find out if and why this happens before we can even broach the topic any further.
P.S The Kings were never going to miss the playoffs and anything done way back in January could easily be corrected or made up for as the season progressed. The Jackets beating the Wings now with only a handful of games left as they fight neck and neck for the final playoff spot is a COMPLETELY different situation than one in January. Plus it would only suit the NHL's pocketbooks to keep as many teams as competitive for a playoff spot as possible for as long as possible so a call going the Wings way back in January would also make sense from that viewpoint.
This is all nothing but conjecture and opinion I am stating here let's be clear on that, I am just laying out a full larger view of the picture that perhaps you have not fully considered.
i used to ump baseball in the summer and I will say in defense of the referee's in both situations that you are officiating in a cultural where you are expected to be right almost 100% of the time, there is human error involved here, the refs have to watch these games and be completely focused for the whole game and make quick snap decisions and be right!!! the same athletes they officiate are asked to do the same and make mistakes all the time.
the second part of my point is over the course of the season close calls or bad calls go against you and for you and that those even out over 82 games.... whether they happen in game 10 or game 80 is irrelevant to the final standings the point total is the same either way.... because of the timing words like "fixed" "pre-determined" "gary's team" get thrown around in game 80 not game 10. Look as a poker hand, Player 1 has AA Player 2 has KK, pre flop Player 1 (assuming heads up) has an 82% win percentage, flop comes King Eight Three, now all of the sudden Player 1's win percentage is 8.5%, turn comes a Five and the win percentage decreases to 4.5% on the River comes an Ace and Player 1 wins. Most would say of man what a bad beat for Player 2, re arrange the King and the Ace of the community cards and Player 1's win percentage go 82% pre flop, 99.9% post flop and 100% after the turn and river.
Point is what does it matter if you got two extra points you shouldn't in January and than lost two points you should have gotten in March, the end result is the same.
