Because most almost all the players live in the same suburb of LA and spend most of their free time together...they feel tremendous need not to let each other down, and consequently they just did what no other team in basketball or hockey has ever done, nor most likely won't....
You also need the right coach to keep focus on the goal, keeping them level, regardless of the situation...
Selfish players don't play, everyone buys in, no one gets playing time if you don't...and consequently you can...
WIN 3 GAME 7'S ON THE ROAD
COME FROM 2 GOALS BEHIND MORE THAN ANY OTHER PLAYOFF TEAM
AND SO ON, AND SO ON...so send away your prima donnas, your one way players, stars without substance and see what happens because if you don't and you face this team in the playoffs in the future, they will be extremely difficult to beat...

having a load of "big bodies with skill" and one of the top "money goalies" in the league didn't hurt any. Kings get that "smash mouth" forecheck going with their size, they are damn near unbeatable
as for coach Darrell "Henery Hawk" Sutter, will see what happens IF #1 asst coach John Stevens departs for a head coaching job somewhere else. I have a feeling he is to Sutter like Mike Yoe was to Danny Bylsma at Pittsburgh. the "stick that stirs the brew"
Yoe was the #1 asst for the Penguins when they finished 2nd to the Red Wings in 2008 and then won the Stanley Cup in 2009. he then departed to take first the Head Coach job with the Wild's AHL Houston Aeros in 2010 and then with the Wild themselves in 2011. Penguins have definately NOT been as good a team without him

Good point and I see him at the timeouts working the strategy. But Sutter has a style that Bylsma didn't-it really helps when things tighten up...more importantly, these guys are really locked in together-heard from inside sources they all hang together year round...Chemistry is not over rated...

Kings looked horrible at times during the regular season till around March or April. They rode a nice streak until they got a wake up call against the leafs at home. After that they went on another huge tear.
The emergence of rookies Taffoli and Pearsons helped solidified the that team and gave them the extra push into the playoffs. They needed time to gel and got REALLY LUCKY after being down 0-3 to absolutely manhandle the sharks game 4 onwards.

They were one lucky bounce away from not even making the sC Finals and a few lucky bounces away from winning 4-1 in the Finals so I wouldn't be so cocky.

Same as a King fan saying Hawks were lucky in 2013 ..hmm, actually they were lucky the Kings were beat up, yet still tied gm 5 and if LA would have won that we might be looking at a three-peat team.
LA needs to keep Richards, hope Dean can get it done.

Thanks for crying a river tonto.

be nice to resign Mike Richards BUT doubt Kings GM Dean Lombardi would do it at the expense of NOT resigning RFA Dwight King and UFA Marian Gaborik. Kings also need to resign either D-men Willie Mitchell or Matt Greene. think the only way he stays is IF he takes a "home town discount" so as not to break up "The Booze Brothers"

Mike richards is already signed long term and Lombardi has already stated he won't be bought out. The Kings having an elite player at every skilled position (kopitar, doughty, quick), Mixed with great depth is a recipe for there recent success.

SIGNED Marian Gaborik and Matt Greene. Dwight King has filed for arbitration. lost Willie Mitchell to Panthers(one of the two D-men was probably going to have to go for cap reasons)

Hookem, I read and follow a lot of your posts and by no means do I mean any disrespect, but I have been a die hard kings fan since '87 and new to this forum as you can see from my lack of posts and join date, but I gave all the credit in world to the hawks in 2013, and so did a lot of my kings fan compadres. I have yet to hear or read one hawks fan who will give the kings any credit for what they did from games 2-4 and game 7, to oust your beloved hawks. Not on hfboards not nowhere. Is your fan base really that pompous? (Once again this isn't directed towards you)

There is a difference between losing in overtime of game 7 on an own goal deflection, than getting spanked in 5 games. 2014 series was even corsi but in the 2013 series Kings were heavily outchanced. So it makes sense for Hawks fans to be sour about the way the season ended and not give as much credit to the Kings...
On a personal note, I told this to Norbert as well, the Kings resume in the past 5 years speaks for itself, 2 stanley cups and 3 conference finals appearances (just like the Hawks), it takes a real moron not to respect your team.

no doubt about it. i get the reason as to why people would be butt hurt about it, shoot, i was butt hurt as a kid, after the mcsorley stick incident, in 93, and on the same token toronto maple leaf fans are STILL butt hurt, about the doug gilmour stick to the face by gretzky non call, TO THIS DAY. (sorry leafs fans, as a kings fan, were used to alot crap going wrong, i mean no offense), but no joke, i havent spoken to one hawks fan who has just said, "great series, it was a toss up at the end, the kings won the coin flip, blah blah...." its been nothing but "kings got lucky."
Rangers fan friends of mine, still have nightmares of Dwight King goal. kool, i get it, but do you realllly think your overachieving Rags squad was going to beat the kings in 7???, or lets say even the hawk, if the bounce went the other way. cmon now

McSorley got a raw deal being blamed for losing the 93 cup. No f'ing way !! At the time there were plenty of players using a bit much of a curve ..yes even on the almighty Montreal bench. Funny that now they allow more curve and want the scoring up. Anyway credit the box Frenchmen for using the (then) rule to get out of a jamb. After all the OT games lost, the series was much closer than it appeared and more than likely it was the inexperienced Melrose and the line ups/shift changes that led to losing in the end. Confidence is a big factor and finally in 2012 LA got a coach that doesn't make excuses and is a master of confidence in the room, not parlor tricks like bringing in Anthony Robbins.-lol-
Anyone who knows hockey and is a real Kings fan would see Marty brought skill and excitement to the team, Along with 99 these two got the forum from empty to packed. I think 33 should go up in the rafters before 4 just for the fact Marty pretty much coached Blake to be the gritty defenseman he was.
Hrudey also deserves some respect ..that 91 team that won the division is still one of the Kings best teams ever assembled.
