You may not believe it but i don't know much about iranian basketball.
However, given they beat Italy in the third game of the recent series, beat Croatia who are traditionally strong and beat China to qualify for the Olympics they appear to be a fairly solid team (Italy is ranked 7 in the world Australia 9, Croatia 20).
Some OS players have only just joined the team and Anstey is doubtful with the flu. Bogut is still in US I believe as is Jawai.
I played:
Iran to win 0.5u $21
Iran +19.5 1.5u

er no worries, but it wasn't exactly a strong play when it took a meaningless last second shot to cover.
iran weren't too bad offensively and defensively but they made alot of turnovers not seeming used to the level of pressure Australia applied.
I liked the look of the Australian squad and think the final team will be the best ever. They didn't look very in sync though and were playing playground alot of the time. I think they will get better.
4 middles in a row is ridiculous showme, well done.

Thinking that the aussies will be better for the run and could blow this one out, hard to lay 18.5 in any bball match though - even if it were the Celtics playing the Lakers in an NBA final...

Any thoughts on the 2nd match binomial et al?

I took the Lakers at the Half.

- the other big guy Hadadi who was impressive, wasn't at his best according to the coach, even though he had 21p 11r
- the coach also said the players were freaked out playing in front of a big crowd, he basically said noone had ever showed up to watch them before. turnovers were a major problem if they settle down and commit less turnovers i think they should keep it closer because they had enough guys who could score.
- they probably weren't anticipating that more often than not the skips jack up a 3. they should work harder to stop bruton, blondie, redhage etal getting open 3s. australia didn't look to have too much team play.
- in their three game series with italy they improved every game in terms of the score
However, wouldn't be suprised if Australia wins big.

gun i agree aussies are likely to play better, however i am on iran again:
Iran +19 1.5u
Some of my reasons:
- Nielson decided to go hang out with the fam rather than play
- the other big guy Hadadi who was impressive, wasn't at his best according to the coach, even though he had 21p 11r

Good analysis nomi, after looking at the scoring progression in the first match your pick makes sense. It was only in the 1st quarter that the aussies blew the iranians away, only outscoring iran by 8 pts over the final 3 quarters - inclusive of a great 3 shooting %. Small play on iran with you mate.

Having watched the 1st test on fox I must say that Iran's offense revolves mainly around dumping the ball down low to their big centre, Hadadi who is very long and effective with a soft touch around the basket. But he is carrying some sort of injury and could be limited tonight if fatifue is an issue or if he gets into foul trouble chances of a backdoor cover is highly unlikely. A lot of the Iranian's pts come from inside the paint (through Hadadi or drives to the basket) as this team is not much very good at the outside shots plus turnover is a serious problem for them in game 1.
CJ and Barlow caught fire and torched Iran from the 3 pt line...and do hold a definite advantage again tonight. Speed and quickness of the Aussie back court is a serious concern for the Iranian. AUS has too much firepower all around as the 1st test was used by the coach to narrow down his selection of the squad that will be heading to the Olympics and most of the stars were rested in the 2H which helped Iran to cover the spread.
I am not game to take Iran tonight but if you like them, I suggest you to wait and get a better line at HT as I'm pretty sure that the Aussies will lead from start to finish. A better line will be on offer when Iran trails at the HT break.
No play for me so good luck for those punting on the game tonight.

I completely agree with D-Play, monday night wasn't fun at all even though I too was on Iran +19.5.
THe Aussies will clear out early again and dominate from go to woe, generally I only like backing underdogs + when they have SOME chance of actually winning the game.
That's not the case in this matchup.
