cant see it happening, but I have seen incredible events on the last days of test matches before, so you never really know

Highly unlikely, they only lead by 88 so there just isn't enough time even if conservatively you say England will score 120+ in the first session (extended session in the morning)

england will declare a few overs before tea when they have a 250+ run lead, 
england have a big psychological advantage going into the 2nd test, even with a flat pitch, there'll be a lot of doubters in that aussie dressing room that they at least didnt put england under pressure let alone win from such a great position.

England would love to get 3 or so wickets this afternoon. If they can get Ponting and Clarke cheaply just to rub salt in the wounds, they'll be thrilled.

This is playing out just like Cardiff a few years ago.

I can see the Poms batting all the way to tea, have a 300+ lead and then bowl at the Aussies for the final session.

I think England should call an end to this now and get Australia in for an uncomfortable couple of hours here. 

Forget the England batting card, this will be a totally different game when England's bowlers - who can actually hit the right areas, move the ball and sustain pressure - get cracking on Australia imo. 

There's cracks all over the place and if they bowl well they could even make a run at this

England declare at 1/517.

I just read on cricinfo that this is only the sixth time in Test history a team has gone past 500 with only one wicket down. And it's certainly the first time Australia have been on the wrong end of it.

Australia's pop-gun attack needs some serious changes

In situations like this when they have an unbeatable lead with 40 odd overs to go or whatever, take the team in commanding position for the DNB. Hammer it. You won't lose.

Forget the outright winner, DNB is better. You can sit back and cheer for England and at the same time know your money is safe when it becomes a draw.

Setting a target to me means dangling the carrot to the opposition and giving them a chance to win. What England did was bat the Aussies into submission and gave them a token 35 overs to bat. That's called kicking the shit out of a dead man

If I was Strauss I would have just batted on and on. Australia finishing at 1 down for 100 odd just proves both teams have pop gun attacks.
