Let me start off by saying that the Jets are my team therefore there may be a little bit of heart in this play along with the head. With Melbourne winning last night this becomes a massive game for Newcastle. Melbourne are now just 2 points behind Newcastle with a game to play, and if the Jets lose tonight, they would have to get a result next Friday night to secure a spot, and their record at home to Perth is abysmal. Furthermore, Melbourne would know before taking the pitch whether their season is still alive or not, as they don't play until Sunday.........Anyway, the Jets still have their fate in their own hands and a win tonight would see them equal first (at least for 24 hours) and guaranteed a place in the finals.
The Jets and the mariners have a long running fued, dating back to a pre-season game before A-League season 1 when Durante had his leg smashed to bits by Mjrda. The Jets have also historically played them well, only being beaten twice out of the teams 10 previous clashes.
My biggest concern for the Jest tonight is the loss of Adam Griffiths, who will be suspended until the finals for picking up his 7th yellow of the season. He has been brilliant at the back this year, and in my opinion he reads the game better than most of his teammates. He is also IMO the Jets best defender against set-pieces, an area of the game that they have always struggled in. Therefore I think his absence will be significant for them.
In any event, I'll take the Jets as road dogs in what could be a record crowd down the road at Bluetongue.

Jets now top of the table (at least for 24 hours). Picture this, if Sydney and Qld draw tomorrow, all of the top 4 teams will be on 31 points with 1 round to play.
Melbourne is now no hope to make the finals.

Tough game this one, Sydney have been running along quite nicely since Culina was given the arse and Kossie took over. Brosque returns to his old stomping grounds and may be paired up-front with bridges. This is where I think Sydney have a definate edge, up front. Pains me to say it, but I'm on the Blues tonight (but gee a draw would make shit interesting)....

Newcastle ended any slim hopes Adelaide had of making the finals, so no point sitting behind the ball. Several Perth players are playing for contacts as well, so we may see an up-tempo type of game.
