We're hitting the final straight regarding cycling in 2010. It's been a highly successful year. Going to finish it off with a bang like last year with Gilbert.

    Paris-Bourges
    Paris-Tours
    Giro di Lombardia

In the Commonwealth games we have the track cycling and road races.

Looking into the markets for the track cycling at the moment as the program kicks off in 7 hours time.

15 units Meares to win the 500m Time Trial @ $1.25 (Sportingbet)

A 3.75 unit Profit here on a bet which will get up. Meares has dominated this event her whole career. The field is weaker and she should absolutely smash it. McCulloch is her danger.

It will be an Australian 1-2 tonight in the time trial.

    1. Meares
    2. McCulloch

    Mens 4000m IP

    8 units Bobridge @ $1.77

Sergent was faster than Bobridge at the World Champs, but word I'm hearing out of the Aussie camp is Bobridge is in brilliant form. These two will battle the gold and silver.... No doubt about it. Here's hoping Bobridge does better

    Yep

I'm happy with the $1.25. I would have taken $1.10 and still hammered it.

    Bobridge is looking good too.

Shame the IP is taken out of the Olympics too. Prehistoric bastards

    Commonwealth Games tonight

    Men's Kierin

    7 units Azizulhasni Awang @ $2.25 (TAB)

This was a choice between Awang and Perkins. Perkins has never proved himself in the Keirin but Awang has. Awang was the silver medalist in the world championships. No one was going to beat Hoy, but he came close to it.

Perkins is a top quality sprinter and probably favourite for the men's sprint, but Keirin, you have to go for the Malaysian who has proven himself to be very good in this discipline. He's won a few gold medals and he's performed well and the 22 year old is continuing to impress. Perkins has been improving in the Keirin, but you need to specialise in this to win and Awang specialises in it.

The Malaysian cycling team is continuing to grow under John Beasley. After Tisin's performance yesterday in the time trial, Beasley has the Malaysian program spot on. If Awang is in form, he won't lose this and will give Malaysia their first gold medal on the track.

    1. Awang
    2. Perkins
    3. Tisin

The pocket rocket does it. Perfect sprint - bonus of being the smallest in the field.

Let's move ahead to a one day race tomorrow, Paris-Bourges

The string of one day classics start to end the season. Paris Bouges, Paris Tours and then Giro di Lombardia.

Paris Bourges usually goes down to a sprint finish with sprinters winning the event the last few years.

Looking through the start-list, the field is poor but one man stands out. Heinrich Haussler.

Haussler is coming back from injury and indicated that Paris-Tours is his objective this year, which is on Sunday. He missed the World Championships and he's the fastest man in this field. If he has the legs, he will be insanely hard to beat. He was looking good earlier in the year matching and able to beat Cavendish so there is nothing to suggest he won't be right to match it against these blokes tomorrow.

He will be in a similar position to Philippe Gilbert last year. Gilbert had a poor season but finished it off in terrific style claiming a hat-trick of one day races. It would not surprise me to see Haussler doing the same thing in seasons that mirror each other.

Breschel will have jet lag flying out of Melbourne on Monday. Rojas is not fast enough on this course - he needs hills. Hinault, Mondory, Fernandez are not up to scratch, though if it does come down to a sprint finish, it wouldn't surprise me to see Fernandez win.

If Haussler was fit and people knew the form he was in, he would be $3 in this weak field.

Without no regrets, I will be taking him @ $6.50. If it pays off, it's good. If it doesn't, then it was worth the punt.

    6 units Heinrich Haussler @ $6.50 (Sportingbet)

    22500 Profit. I wish.

    Maybe in a few years.

Mate, if my units were 6000, you and I could both buy a place in Malibou and drink beer by the pool deck.

6000 units would mean I would have made close to 500,000 during the Vuelta. hahahaha

I will be upping my unit stake next year though.

15 units Australia to win the team pursuit @ $1.55

Australia will be far too strong for New Zealand.

15 units Perkins to win the sprint @ $1.60

Perkins last night showed he is the fastest man here. Can't see him losing.

Dopey bastards. You and I cleaned up on that mistake.

Hirsch, unless you contribute to this thread, get the f*** out.

With the stakes I place, StanJames would never allow me to place a huge bet at the price they set. Done it before, got cut off. And Australian's can't sign up with Paddy Power.

The dopey ones are the ones who hijack people's threads when they do not contribute to the thread at all other than to make useless 'know it all' comments.

    No idea.

Like I said when I played it. It was worth a play for me because of his price and if he was in form, he would smash the field.

Unfortunately his form is way off and he won't win a race till next year.
