Brisbane up by 11 with 3 minutes left and they can't hold off the Demons from two goals.

I put it on there a couple of days ago that Melbourne might get this.

And I lose by a point.

One point.

Alright guys.  Thanks for hanging in there.

I called it but still can't believe it.

Up by 11 with 3 minutes to go and for sure Brisbane doesn't even have to score anymore....just prevent the Dees from goaling.  Behinds are okay....just no goals and they let two in in the final three.

This 4th Quarter blunder was the winning result.

The physio put his hand up and blocked the ball as it was moving on the pitch.  Brisbane had possession at the time.

Instead, it goes to the Dees who kicked a harmless looking behind.

Wow.

The Lions were hampered by three unusual incidents, although coach Leigh Matthews refused to blame them for the defeat.

In the second quarter, Melbourne were awarded a free kick and 50m penalty after Luke Power came off the interchange bench too quickly to replace Simon Black.

In the third term, a curling shot for goal from Brisbane spearhead Daniel Bradshaw was ruled to have gone out of bounds on the full, even though it was clearly a point.

And in the final quarter, Melbourne won another 50m penalty when the Lions physiotherapist inadvertently ran across the mark as Lynden Dunn was about to take his kick.

Each of the three incidents effectively cost Brisbane a point - significant in a match decided by just one.

Matthews was equally philosophical about the Bradshaw scoring error.

"It doesn't matter, the goal umpire is there to adjudicate and he has adjudicated it."


I'm glad he's ok with it.

Bloody Lethal.  He was so nonchalant and so "who gives a damn" at the post-match conference and now all of a sudden he is going to step up and take the blame for this?    Unless he was absolutely shell-shocked into being peacefully pensive, I have no idea what's going on in his head.  How is the world are the players laughing with friends and family and patting themselves on the back before the match with a full 1/3rd of the season left to go and them barely hanging on in the bottom of the 8?  What the hell are they so happy for?

Thing is, yes, you failed to pump them up, but in footy, you have FOUR OPPORTUNITIES to do so:  Pre-Match, first minor, Big Break, and third minor!  After what he saw in the first quarter, how the hell does he not get them fired up at least once during the next three chances?



Past his prime and a relic if you ask me.

We all know Brisbane's disposal rate, handballing, and kick ratio is the worst in the comp.  That's right, WORST IN THE COMP.  But offensively they make up for it.  Still, how flat do you really have to come out to have the Dees walk all over you?  Atrocious.  Enjoy the article:
