I still can't believe how poor the NZ spin bowling stocks are.
Ronnie Hira is not even rated highly by many that play against him in Auckland club cricket. Here he is playing vs the WI.
In fact I know someone that took him to the cleaners in club cricket and he spends just as much time drinking as playing cricket........

A stat of interest from a betting pov - teams batting 2nd have had the highest scoring partnership in 13 of 18 completed matches (6 out of 8 in the Super 8 section).

The WI only got 8, so NZL should be the 14th side batting 2nd to have the highest opening stand, and of course the rained out match saw Ireland score 0 to open vs the WI, so that would've been another side batting 2nd with the highest open had it been finished.

At this point for me, it's almost automatic to bet the side batting 2nd to have the highest opening stand once the toss call is known (I say almost, because while SAF are opening with Levi, I would not back them to have the highest open if they batted 2nd). The logic is simple- teams batting  1st have no idea what a good score is, so pacing their innings is difficult. Teams batting 2nd know what they need, so the openers aren't under extreme pressure early on (this hasn't been a tourney of really high scores for teams batting 1st) to go bananas.

This is the bet of the tourney so far.

Good stuff from N-Mc underated in NZ as a 20-20 and lessor extent ODI bowler. Doesn't matter to me though, as Test cricket is what matters, and daylight 2nd..
