Yes when you are out and about or at party with you friends or people you meet in real life - you greet them and say goodbye - but I would call taking that same behaviour online “strange” - and don’t be fooled I said that to be polite and civil - if I wanted I could have been way more rude - just by speaking my opinion on the matter
