Buffalo don't own shit. Off the top of my head, Memphis is way hotter. Atlanta still hot. North Carolina. Chicago still doin it. Jacksonville is probably hotter than Buffalo.
Funny story that brings this whole shit full circle. A while back, maybe even a couple years, I'm talking to dub. So i'm like, "You're from Buffalo? Ever heard of Griselda?" Griselda is the label and crew that includes the three rappers he named. So i'm like, "My bro booked them to play a show in Oakland. I hung with them, they're pretty cool." This dude goes into how it's fast track to the prison industrial complex music, and how he has argued with them on Twitter because of the content of their music.
I came away from that with two thoughts. One, you know, it's nothing wrong with being all positive and non- violence. I have positive black men in women in my family. Many with master degrees, some with doctorates. One MD. We need more of the that but, two, this dude is a square and he ain't about that life. So there's shit I've lived that he wouldn't understand. Shit maybe he's heard about. Shit maybe he has cousins involved in but shit he's never lived. He ain't about this street shit.
So it's funny to me hearing him talk about the Buffalo rap scene, hearing him talking all this, "Yo, yo, yo, fam" shit because I know it's fugazi. I really lived this shit. Posting. Toting pistols. I did very well on HS basketball playoffs , 9-1 to start at $200 a piece , but the got limited to $50 max bets ...Checking notes I went 12-5 after that ...Didn't count those here though ...Last fall got very lucky with my HS going on a miracle run in footbal all the way to the state championship ( got waxed there) ..Their run was truly a miracle as just 10 years ago BUFFALO PUBLIC schools were only allowed to play each other, the burbs did everything they could to block our entry to stats competition .

..Thankfully I escaped the streets here, many thanks to my pops and uncle who kept me and the closest kids around me focused on sports ..That gang life left us alone to do our thing on the fields or ball court.... By the time I was in my late 20's I can't tell you how many funerals I went to ...Still getting letters from people that have been upstate for 20+....It's way out of control here now , we used to fist fight and move on ...Now they're shooting people's grandma's and babies where I grew up , that's why I strongly dislike these rappers from here who keep touting this street shit ...Swear they get paid to be a pipeline to prison ..

Been volunteering through catholic charites with kids for along time ...10-20 years ago they listened to the old heads who made it out to be successful across the spectrum....Now it's all " well Conway and Benny sold drugs and shot it up , so you can't tell me nothing " ... Many of these kids get sent up north and realize over night how bad they fucked up , but it's too late ..Now they're cleaning dudes underwear and tossing salads for a decade + ...

Last week I had to wait for the Chicago Fire department to hose off the blood off a sidewalk before delivering beer to a liquor store. West Humboldt Park, man shot 7 times for selling drugs that wasn't his turf.
I couldn't make that up if I wanted to.
The saddest thing about the whole situation, the guy I work with and I were more upset that the delay set us back for the day, rather than being upset for the loss of a human life.
That's how regular these things happen.
