they are from gainsville, i believe, youre' in the neighborhood, right?  
the closest i've come to meeting any band members was when i met one of the all time hoteest chicks who was a waitress in a bar and i went to work only to get shot down and find out the lead singer of some group calle seven dust was dating her.    

other than that, the daughter of one of these guys (i don't remember which one, but perhaps worthy of dsn's epic thread here) went to my elementary school and i got his autograph at ome of  the student-teacher events.  

that's about it.

38 Special, or what's left of them, still does the Southeast touring circuit every summer. They hit the smaller venues, county fairs, amusement parks, etc. The band Sevendust is based out of Jacksonville, though I haven't heard from them in a long while.
