Actually, it could be a nasty neck/neuro/brain injury as well. Those can interact to also stop someone from breathing. Not saying it is, but it is something that is within the realm of possibility.

I suspect that the hospital and league are being tight lipped to protect his medical privacy. Nobody wants to be linked to a “Kobe Bryant leaked photos” incident, and I can’t blame them. It isn’t some grand conspiracy, it’s the league and ESPN being respectful of Hamlin and his family’s right to process this catastrophe with privacy. 

Goodell is gonna flip his lid if the family learns more via TV than via his medical doctors. Eventually the info will come out, but gotta protect the family’s right to grieve first.

This is also prime breeding ground for a dumb conspiracy theorist to go on a conspiracy media outlet (Fox, Infowars) and say something defamatory, and later get sued.
