I'm not in a position to " leave it behind " yet . Over the next 10 years I plan on building the $ up as much as possible , so by the time I'm 40 I can "check out" if I choose too .

Not quite.

If your mother dies, and I say, "Second, I'm glad she's dead".

And if there is a story reported, about somebody nobody knows, and the family will never read what is said about them, says, "Hey, I'm glad they died"

I don't equate those two.

Example 1 was way worse.

It's okay, obviously has some drawbacks - high price of living, awful traffic, pollution, the occasional earthquake, etc...
