I used the word enthralling when describing the movies Titanic and 127 hours in the "127 hours" thread. A sophomoric initial interpretation of the word by the self-proclaimed intellectuals on this site could lead one to believe I left the door open to hilarious jibes....as though I was in a movie theater clutching the sides of my upholstered chair, tearing up when Jack held Rose above the ship's bow as she gleefully exclaims "I'm flying!"
Well, scalabrine has turned the tables on your sorry asses once again! Upon further inspection, Enthrall is another word for to enslave, that is, to literally bound the ankles and wrists with cuffs and chains for possession of another. It is a word quite apropos for my stance on this site. It is also a word that has lost this vital secondary definition! Why? White authors, scholars, and publishers don't use the word in that sense anymore because of shame, guilt, and recognition that this country was founded and built on the flagellated backs of the black male and female (and child!). Furthermore, if those backs didn't exist or ceased to work (as the modern day black is presumed to not partake in every day by whites, that is ''work"), this continent would still be in the possession of its rightful owners....The "American Indians"!
Now that 99.99999% of the members here just learned something new, I will explain further why I used the aforementioned word.
It also means "to subjugate", that is, we are subjugated mentally by the death, injury and calamity of our fellow man to satisfy some unexplained carnal appetite. This is inescapable and inborn in all of us. Yet in 127 hours, that viewing resulted in a self-amputation; a fear the overwhelming majority of us could never face. It provided inspiration and motivation to embrace our current, and immensely more blessed and tolerable condition and fate.
And why does this topic deserve its own thread????
