The
teams announced the trade Monday prior to their three-game series
opener in Seattle. It was not immediately known if Ichiro, who had spent
his entire major-league career with the Mariners, will be in uniform
with the Yankees for the contest.
Seattle received reliever D.J. Mitchell and minor-league right-hander Danny Farquhar in exchange for Ichiro, the Mariners' all-time leader in batting average and hits.
The
deal marks the end of Ichiro's historic tenure with the Mariners. Major
League Baseball's first Japanese-born position player, Ichiro was named
the American League's MVP and Rookie of the Year in 2001, when he
helped lead Seattle to the best regular season in history.
Ichiro, 38, also won two AL batting titles and 10 Gold Glove awards in his 11-plus seasons with the Mariners.
Ichiro figures to provide a significant boost to the Yankees, who were swept by the Oakland Athletics in a four-game series this past weekend and have been searching for outfield depth since likely losing left fielder Brett Gardner to a season-ending elbow injury.
Mitchell, 25, posted a 3.86 ERA in four relief appearances for the Yankees this season.

I think its a good move for both teams.
Ichiro will go on and hit around .300 for NYY and probably end
up with more runs now that he has support while the Mariners will get
something for him that they wouldn't if he left simply as a free agent.
Shrewd move by Cashman.Wow.

Ichiro is 38 so how many years you think he has left? Don't like the trade unless the Yanks feel the prospects have no future and the Yanks need pitching big time. Especially for the future.
