color clarity karat and cut THESE ARE ALL THAT MATTER.

You can buy a one karat stone for the same price as a ten karat stone.

You want to strike a balance between KARAT and clarity, you do not want one with blatant imperfections that are practically obvious to the naked eye. HOWEVER your wife is not a gemologist so you don't want to blow all the cash on the perfect clarity of a ring when a ring not as good by "perfection" standards steal looks awesome.

Then the money saved can go to size, and yes boys size does matter. YOUR WIFE WILL HAVE THIS FOREVER....FOREVER..FOREVER. When she meets your coworkers she will have it on, your boss, employees, friends, etc etc. SPEND SOME MONEY IF YOU CAN.

The cut is up to you but round is safe, classy, and timeless, BUT certain shapes "look bigger" also .

appraisal certificates are in some cases confetti, many cases actually, so be careful.

look on internet for ring prices on the BUY AND SELL side so you can see the HUGE markups

But, if you are too hard headed to listen, PLEASE, don't have any kids...not only are they VERY expensive when you are together, but when divorced (more than 50% do divorce) kids suffer greatly They get used as pawns in the battles. clarity: IF is the best then VVS1, VVS2 then VS1, VS2

internal flawless

i would stay above VS2 in clarity

cut: my girl was partial to the emerald cut

carot: as big as you can

you know they make some pretty sweet man made lab diamonds nowadays so you can have a clean conscience about your purchase, plus i hear they can micro engrave these bitches

I agree with your second part except about the kids. Actually, most of that paragraph is scary accurate. I love my kids though, they are awesome. Sure, they are expensive and they do get used as pawns during arguments, but they are worth it. Frankly, I'd love to have the kids without the wife.

It was amazing how the color and clarity worked with one another...

If these prices on EBAY are accurate, and the diamonds are authentic... There are some great deals out there on diamonds...

I was big time in college...

I had more money than I knew what to do with. I couldn't imagine needing to buy anything else for our place... I mean I have a 61 and 50" TVs for christ sake...

My family has been in the jewelry business for as long as I can remember, I dont do it anymore, cause I'm sick of jewelry.

But do not buy shit from tiffanys, go support your local jeweler, and not the ones in the mall like zales and them, they will give you the least amount of service for the most price. I got married about 6 months ago, and I got my ring custom made also, the stone cost me about $6800 and the ring part cost me another $2200. And these are cost prices for me!! I can tell you that diamond prices will keep rising, so get one now if you can and just hold on to it. Not a huge jump, but it will go up.

Stick to VS2 and higher. I opted for a VS1. Its not worth paying the extra for a VVS1, or VVS2. Clarity, do not go lower than G color. H is told to be ok, but not worth it when this is something you will buy only once. For a good value stone, get a stone that is like 1.35 or 1.41, dont go to 1.5(unless you want to get that size for her), because of price jumps. Its like tax brackets, it just jumps to a different price group. Make sure its GIA cert, you will pay a bit more for it, but they grade the hardest and it will be the stone.

For example, if you buy a 1.5 ct, VS2, G color and its like EGL cert. , they dont grade as high. If you were to send the exact stone for a GIA cert. it would prob come back at 1.49 ct, VS2-SI1, H color. Shit like that. Your jeweler will have the GIA cert stone. Good for insurance purposes also when you get it appraised.

If you to NYC, they have gallons of diamonds to choose from in all price ranges. Those ebay prices are probably similar to the NYC prices.

Give her a budget and let her pick out the stone. She might not care if it's got an imperfection or something for a bigger size. Who knows.
