What your going to do is...be honest with the guy. Tell him you got jammed up. Tell him your gonna give him HALF. Pay him $500 asap.....Then tell him you'll give him $50 a week or $100 a week until its paid off...whatever you can afford.
He won't say a thing. Let him know that you didn't wanna give him a million stories but you just wanted to be honest  with him.
He will respect that and will NOT give you a hard time.

Now....
If you feel the urge to play sports or whatever...find a way to fund an online account for $100 and play a little. Learn what the fuck goes on instead of just putting bets in with your heart.

If you should listen to me I will promise you that this will be the CHEAPEST lesson you will ever learn,

ok guys..i have an update for you...my bookie wouldnt let me do shit tonight!...i asked him if i cud make a 1000 dollar play and he said no..i asked if i cud do a 400 dollar parlay and he said no.  He is getting scared i wont pay up...the only way i cud make my money back tonight was to make 2 parlays each for 200 a piece.

parlay #1...bucks ml(-120) and cleveland +11

parlay #2..cleveland +11 and cleveland/balt over 40

this was the only possible way to win my $ back before payday.  If i wanted to make a str8 bet...max wouldve been 400..so i wudnt even have made half back.

Yep, he's a phony. He never would've paid you. He figures if you pay him, it's great for him. He never intended to pay you.  I used to bet with some phony bookies in college. They only show up to collect, and never to pay. This guy wouldn't have paid you. He thinks you're a sucker and he's playin' you.  Tell him to get lost and collecting bets from minors is doubly illegal.
